Chapter 314
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Once she had departed, the mall manager gave a slight nod to Lindsey and stole a glance at Domenic.
Beads of sweat formed on his forehead, and he hastily left.
Lindsey sensed that the manager might have intervened on her behalf, but she wondered why he would do so.
Fortunately, the matter found its resolution.
Otherwise, Shelia clutching onto the incident of Elaine biting her wouldâve been quite a problem.
âElaine, itâs all right.
â Lindsey crouched before Elaine, lightly tapping her nose, and said, âBut always remember, you canât just go around biting people.
Thatâs not the way to do things.
â
Elaine sniffled, her grievance clear.
âShe said Iâm ill-bred.
I wonât let anyone say that about Mommyâs nurturing!â
After a brief pause, Lindsey grasped the situation.
âElaine, did you think she was speaking ill of your mommy?â
Elaine nodded firmly.
âYes, my mommyâs been hurt a lot.
I wonât let anyone speak ill of her.
I have to protect her!â
It turned out that Elaineâs actions werenât driven by fear or defiance but by her unique way of protecting her mother.
A twinge of sadness tugged at Lindseyâs heart.
Elaine had displayed more strength than she had anticipated, yet at just so young, she was the one who should be receiving care and protection.
She cradled Elaine in her arms, stroking her soft hair.
âYou know, Elaine? Your mommy used to be quite awesome.
She was a very influential star, and many people admired her.
Thatâs why they supported her, and the people who hurt her would be held accountable by the police.
Those past events wouldnât recur.
â
âMy mommy used to be quite awesome?â Elaine blinked in disbelief and said, âIs it true? Is she more awesome than that ugly woman?â
Lindsey laughed.
âOf course! Furthermore, what your mommy seeks right now isnât safeguarding but assistance because she aims to regain her former strength.
â
âIf she becomes awesome again, she wonât get hurt anymore?â Elaine tilted her head, seeking assurance.
âCertainly.
â Lindsey patiently replied, âHowever, if your mommy wants to change, she canât be with you all the time.
Do you get it?â
Elaine nodded, seeming to grasp the concept.
âI want her to be just as awesome as she used to be and not be pushed around anymore.
So, itâs alright if she canât always be with me.
Iâll be there to support her!â
Lindsey embraced Elaine tightly, a satisfied smile on her face.
Domenic observed Lindsey consoling Elaine with tenderness.
There seemed to be stars in his clear eyes, shining brightly and warmly.
And his heart melted.
After dinner, Lindsey called Selah and learned that her meeting wasnât finished yet.
Selah requested Lindsey to look after Elaine for a bit longer.
Lindsey agreed wholeheartedly.
She remembered how Elaine, like Selah, used to be confined to her home, rarely having the chance to go out and play.
She was eager to explore the world.
Lindseyâs heart softened.
She crouched down and asked, âElaine, if thereâs anything else youâd Like to do or something you enjoy, just tell me.
Iâll do my best to make it happen for you.
â
âOkay⦠Elaine tilted her head, deep in thought.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up.
âI love stars and fireworks! Can you two take me to see them?â
Lindsey hadnât anticipated her saying that, and she felt self-conscious.
âEven though I also enjoy stars and fireworks, Iâ¦â
