Chapter 413
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Domenic didnât respond and continued straight to the dining room.
Something felt off.
Rupertâs instincts were telling him that Domenic was hiding something.
He turned to watch Domenicâs retreating figure, a smile forming on his face.
After the dinner with Jordan, Domenic excused himself early, citing work commitments.
By ten in the evening, Lindsey had already dozed off in bed.
Half-asleep, she sensed a rustling beside her, followed by a Large hand encircling her waist.
Startled awake, she instinctively threw an elbow strike behind her!
But her elbow hit nothing.
Instead, it was caught, and she found herself pulled into a strong, comforting embrace.
âItâs me.
â A deep, slightly raspy voice broke the silence of the dark room.
âWhy didnât you let me know you were here?â Lindseyâs cheeks turned a shade of red.
She had mistakenly thought an intruder had entered and nearly harmed Domenic.
âI didnât want to disturb your sleep.
â Domenic wrapped his arms around her from behind, planting a ki*s on her neck.
Her scent brought him a se
nse of calm.
Lindsey inhaled the mixed scents of cedar and cigarette from Domenic.
She turned around to face him, her arms reaching to embrace him, her nose brushing against him.
âYou are acting like a puppy.
Why are you sniffing me?â Domenic gazed at her with tenderness.
âIâm going to check if youâve got the perfume of another woman on you!â
Domenic chuckled and said, âSo, did you smell anything?â
âI can smellâ¦â Lindsey lifted her head to look at Domenicâs amused expression.
âYouâve been smoking quite a bit.
Are things bothering you?â
Domenicâs gaze grew serious, yet his demeanor softened.
In the faint light, Lindseyâs sweet smile was comforting.
The tobacco scent on him was strong, but she didnât shy away.
Instead, she held him closer, as if to offer solace.
He gently stroked her hair.
âI stopped by to see my grandpa after work and ran into my uncles.
â
Lindsey looked surprised and asked, âDid they give you a hard time?â
âNo, they just made some annoying remarks.
â Domenic nestled his face in Lindseyâs neck, his usually neat hair now tousled across his forehead.
It was with Lindsey that Domenic could truly relax.
As a prominent CEO, he rarely showed his sorrowful or vulnerable side to anyone.
He was known for being powerful and composed, a man in control of everything.
With Lindsey, he wasnât the unreachable king anymore; he was just a regular guy with feelings and wants.
He could fully enjoy life and find comfort in his loved oneâs arms when feeling down.
What a happy life.
Yet tonight, Domenic was filled with restlessness, uncertain about how long this happiness would last.
He wasnât in a position to discuss his family affairs with Lindsey or introduce her to his grandpa.
It felt like an enormous gap lay between them.
