Chapter 595
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Xiomara knew Lindsey was approachable despite always being serious in the office.
But today, she felt more like a close friend.
âOh, no, thatâs not what I meant,â Xiomara quickly clarified, waving her hand.
âI was just curious about the kind of man who would be with someone as perfect as you.
â
âYouâre so sweet,â Lindsey said, chuckling softly.
Then she handed the peeled apple to Xiomara and added, âIâm not as fabulous as you think, and heâs just a regular guy.
â
As soon as Lindsey finished speaking, her phone rang.
She pulled it out with a continuing smile.
âWell, speak of the devil.
I need to take this call,â she said to Xiomara.
Xiomara nodded.
Lindsey stepped out of the ward to answer the phone.
âWhereâs your uncle? He went out to call you and hasnât come back,â she inquired.
On the other end, Domenicâs voice was gentle.
âWhat did he tell you?â he asked.
âNothing much.
I know how your equation is with him.
I havenât forgotten about him locking you in the cellar!â Lindsey replied, her voice carrying a hint of resentment.
Domenic chuckled.
âPlanning to avenge me, are you? Donât worry, thereâll be plenty of opportunities for that.
For now, if you run into any of my uncles, just walk away without saying a word.
â
âAlright, if you say so.
â
Lindseyâs obedient tone made Domenic gulp saliva.
âSo, will you be coming back tonight?â he asked, his voice magnetic.
âWellâ¦â
Before Lindsey could finish, Domenic asked, âIs it because your mother doesnât want you to return?â It was as if he could read Lindseyâs mind.
Lindsey sighed softly.
âShe hasnât been well lately.
I want to stay with her a little longer.
â
âI understand,â Domenic replied helplessly.
âYouâre doing the right thing.
â
After a brief pause, he changed the topic.
ââLinds, what are you going to do about Shelia?â
Lindseyâs face darkened.
âShe has broken the law.
Regardless of what I want to do, sheâs facing legal consequences,â she said firmly.
âI see,â Domenic responded.
After Lindsey hung up the phone, she returned to the ward.
Xiomara, still weak and recovering, had fallen asleep.
Approaching the bed, Lindsey gently tucked her in.
Xiomaraâs condition had been pretty serious the past few days, but no one from her family bothered to visit the hospital.
Holding her hand, Lindsey felt sorry for her.
After staring at her peaceful face for a few minutes, Lindsey succumbed to the fatigue accumulated over the past two days.
Resting her head near Xiomaraâs hand, she drifted off to sleep.
