Chapter 626
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Lindseyâs thoughts were in turmoil.
If Marisa died, the truth about the fire would remain hidden.
Leonel got out of the car and came over to Lindsey, gently patting her back to calm her down.
âLinds, are you alright?â
After throwing up, Lindsey stood up, her eyes brimming with tears.
âLeonel, Marisa tried to end her life.
Weâve lost the lead.
â
Leonel paused, surprised.
He glanced at the woman on the ground and asked, âYou mean, this is Marisa?â
Lindsey nodded, then approached Marisa and crouched beside her, whispering, âWhy⦠Why did you do this?â
Soon after, Lindsey and Leonel were escorted to the police station for questioning.
Several men in black, who had been following Marisa, appeared once the police had left.
The leader of the men made a call, saying, âBoss, Marisa⦠Marisa ran into Lindseyâs car and died.
â
âWhat? How about Lindsey?â His voice was mixed with shock.
âLindsey was taken away by the police.
But donât worry.
The surveillance footage clearly indicated that Marisa had deliberately collided with Leonelâs car; it wasnât Leonel and Lindseyâs fault.

With Marisaâs passing, the question is, should the investigation into the matter continue?â
âContinue investigating.
Thereâs someone behind her.
â
âYes, sir.
â
In the office, Domenic sat in a leather chair, pinching the bridge of his nose.
He swiveled the chair, gazing out of the French window into the radiant sunlight.
Meanwhile, Lindsey and Leonel occupied the interrogation room, their heads bowed in evident distress.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the police reviewed nearby surveillance footage, confirming Marisaâs deliberate act of colliding with their car.
âThereâs a possibility of arson leading to suicide,â concluded the police officer.
âBut Marisa had a critically ill child.
If sheâs gone, where does that leave the child?â inquired Lindsey.
The officer stated, âWeâre investigating, but progress has been elusive.
As youâve proven your innocence, youâre free to leave.
Rest assured, weâll reach out if there are any developments.
â
Exiting the police station, Leonel paused, turning to Lindsey.
âWhatâs our next move?â
In a grave tone, Lindsey expressed her thoughts, âI canât shake the feeling that things arenât that simple.
Marisa had no financial motives, and no known grudges against Mom.
What would drive her to commit arson and subsequently decide to end her own life? Thereâs something she wanted to conceal.
And her child⦠thatâs our only potential breakthrough.
We must find that child.
