Chapter 786
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Although she had become a judge on the show later, Sumnerâs hostility toward her had not reduced.
Sumner was very concerned.
He quickened his pace and caught up with Lindsey.
He grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind him before she could say anything.
He asked Lindsey, âWhy are you with her?â
Lindsey was still trying to fathom out what was going on.
She asked, âWhy? Whatâs going on?â
Sumner didnât answer immediately.
Instead, he turned to look at Carole.
Carole smiled amiably at Sumner and said, âSumner, do you remember me? Iâm from the judging panel of Star Search.
â
Sumner mumbled a disinterested âHmmmâ.
Lindsey pinched his arm.
âMind your manners.
Miss Larson gave you invaluable professional advice.
â
Sumner asked reluctantly, âWhat brought you here, Miss Larson?â
âThe shooting for the second episode is about to commence.
How are your preparations going? If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
Iâll be happy to share my knowledge with you,â Carole offered politely.
However, Sumner did not reciprocate her kindness.
He replied curtly, âNo need.
â He kept a vigilant eye on Carole and strategically positioned himself so as to protect Lindsey.
Lindsey tried to lean forward, but Sumner held her firmly.
It wasnât appropriate to struggle in public so she stopped resisting.
Carole observed Sumnerâs protective stance and seemed to understand something.
She smiled and said, âYou have a lot of potential.
Keep working hard and you are bound to achieve better results in the second episode.
Unfortunately, I wonât be participating in the second episode, but next week is my engagement ceremony.
Would you and Lindsey like to attend as my special guests?â
Sumnerâs frowned Was this woman about to get engaged? What did this mean for her ties with Domenic? Had he been mistaken all along?
âWhy did you step down from being a judge? You have an engagement party next Tuesday.
It doesnât overlap with your TV show commitments, does it?â Lindsey asked, looking confused.
Carole offered a bashful smile, tilting her head down slightly, âMy fiancé prefers me out of the limelight.
Iâve promised him that Iâll focus on being a housewife once weâre engaged.
â
Noticing Caroleâs happy look, Lindsey couldnât help but ask, âYouâre quite the catch.
The man whoâs convinced you to marry him must be remarkable.
Iâm eager to see who has captured your affection.
â
Carole smiled meaningfully.
âYouâll find out when the time comes.
â
Sumner sensed a deeper meaning behind Caroleâs smile.
He couldnât stop watching her, but Lindsey swiftly found an excuse to distract him, allowing them to make their exit.
Upon reaching a jewelry store, Lindsey, walking next to Carole, inquired, âMiss Larson, why didnât your fiancé accompany you to pick out the ring?â
Caroleâs accounts had painted a picture of a couple deeply in love.
Wouldnât they want to share this moment together?
Carole answered with composure, âHeâs busy with work and seldom gets a break.
Iâm capable of managing some things by myself.
â
Lindsey found herself admiring Caroleâs independence and thoughtfulness towards her partner, a stark contrast to the stereotypical jealous and clingy girlfriend.
This piqued Lindseyâs interest further.
What kind of formidable man had persuaded such a woman to willingly leave her job and devote herself to domestic life?
