Chapter 828
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Lindsey was blown away by the sight, her mouth hanging open slightly.
âWhoa! No way! Itâs a meteor shower.
Iâve never seen one before!â she shouted in amazement.
Then it hit Lindsey, and she hurriedly clasped her hands together in front of her chest, silently making a wish.
Sumner also settled in next to her.
Then, a few seconds later, they both opened their eyes together and gave each other a gentle smile.
Glancing at Lindsey intensely, Sumner leaned in and whispered, âSo, what was your wish?â
Lindsey propped her hands on the grass, gazing up at the stunning sky with a hopeful gleam in her eyes.
âI wished for my mom to wake up soon.
â
Sumnerâs heart felt heavy, but he swiftly comforted her, saying, âHey, donât worry.
Sheâll wake up soon, Iâm sure.
â
Lindsey nodded.
She perked up a bit and turned to him, asking, âSo, what about you? What was your wish?â
Lindsey immediately regretted her question upon noticing the tenderness and affection in Sumnerâs eyes.
Before he could formulate a response, she interjected, âYouâd better not say it.
â
âWhy not?â he asked, confused.
âIâm worried that if your wish is related to me, I may not be able to fulfill it.
â Lindseyâs gaze was transparent as she revealed her thoughts.
The light in Sumnerâs eyes suddenly dimmed.
His heart sank like a ship caught in a storm upon hearing her candid words.
Yet, he managed a wry smile and said, âDonât worry.
I havenât made any wishes.
I donât believe in such concepts.
Iâm a practical man who only cares about what I can grasp with my hands.
â
As Sumner spoke, he gently placed his hands on Lindseyâs shoulders, locking eyes with her.
âLindsey, I brought you here today to make it clear that I will openly pursue you,â he said, his smile radiating sincerity.
Lindsey was caught off guard by his straightforwardness.
It seemed her previous attempts to dissuade him had been in vain, leaving her with nothing but a headache.
âSumner, Iâve already told you I have a boyfriend.
My heart belongs to him alone,â Lindsey said in a firm tone.
âBut heâs just a boyfriend, right? You arenât married yet, so technically, I still have a chance,â Sumner responded stubbornly, tightening his grip on her shoulders.
âWhy not let us compete on our merits? That seems fair, doesnât it?â
After a pause, Sumnerâs voice softened into a near plea.
âIâm willing to wait for you to choose me.
Lindsey, I really want to be with you.
Wonât you at least consider giving me a fair chance?â
Lindsey found herself at a loss for words.
After a moment, she gently broke free from his grasp and stepped back.
âThank you for today, but thatâll be all.
Itâs getting late.
I should head home.
â
She then turned to leave.
âHas he ever taken you to see the meteor shower?â Sumner asked loudly with a hint of desperation.
Lindsey stopped in her tracks and turned to face Sumner with a serene expression.
âHe has shown me something far more beautiful.
No matter how breathtaking a meteor shower may be, it canât compare to what Iâve experienced with him,â she said calmly.
Sumner stood frozen as the meticulously planned romantic gesture he had been planning for so long was suddenly rejected.
