Chapter 631: Not Angry
Daddy! Come Home for Dinner!
Wendy Clarke immediately asked, âDoes, does her son look like Mr. Lopez?â
Her son did look exactly like Mr. Lopez.
Wendy still remembers the first time she saw the child, she could hardly stand his appearance.
How could he be so ugly.
If only he looked a bit more like her, she might have cared about him a little.
But he was a spitting image of Mr. Lopez.
Wendy simply couldnât stand Mr. Lopez, so it was impossible for her to love that child.
If Cindy Clarkeâs son was also Mr. Lopezâs, Wendy thought, the child probably wouldnât be much better off either.
Mrs. Lopez curled her lip slightly and shot a sarcastic glance at Wendy Clarke.
Wendy picked up on that, feeling there was something off about Mrs. Lopezâs expression.
But she was so curious about Cindy Clarkeâs son, Wendy couldnât think too much about it.
Her eyes were filled with eager anticipation, waiting for Mrs. Lopezâs answer.
Mrs. Lopez smiled and said, âHe doesnât really resemble my husband much.â
Wendy felt a bit disappointed, but then she heard Mrs. Lopez say, âHowever, his facial features do bear a vague hint of resemblance to my husband.â
Wendy finally breathed a sigh of relief, realizing her guess was correct.
That son was indeed Mr. Lopezâs.
Five years ago, Cindy Clarke too didnât escape the fate.
âOnly she herself will not admit it,â Mrs. Lopez said.
Wendy thought, of course, Cindy would never admit it.
That girl has been stubborn since she was young.
Even though she could have chosen a simpler and easier lifestyle, she chose a more difficult path instead. Wendy never understood her reasoning.
If Mrs. Lopez goes to Cindy Clarke and wants to take the child back to the Lopez Family, itâs easy to imagine that Cindy would never agree.
Even without the childâs burden, life would be easier for her.
She would have a higher chance of finding someone to marry and live a better life.
But Wendy never understood why Cindy didnât take that opportunity. Maybe Cindy was showing off her strength and playing hard to get.
Wendy guessed that Cindy probably didnât want to acknowledge Mr. Lopez either.
As a social media influencer, if people knew she had a past with Mr. Lopez, no matter the truth, it would be a stain on her reputation.
So, Wendy figured, even for her own career, Cindy probably wouldnât acknowledge Mr. Lopez.
âSheâs just like that,â Wendy quickly said, âI knew it.â
Mrs. Lopez casually replied, âIf she doesnât want to, I donât have to force her to bring the child home.â
âAfter all, thereâs already one child in our house. I donât need to take another womanâs child into my home for additional trouble.â
Actually, Wendy didnât want Mrs. Lopez to bring the child back either.
She would never scheme to give Cindy such an easy break.
What Wendy wanted was for Mrs. Lopez to know about the childâs existence,so that they could confront each other.
But who knew, things didnât go the way Wendy expected.
âYou saw her son and didnât get angry?â Wendy Clarke asked.
âNo, not angry,â Mrs. Lopez mentioned indifferently.
âWhy?â Wendy couldnât help but blurt out.
Compared to Mrs. Lopez, Wendy was still weaker and not as clever.
Mrs. Lopez had been dealing with Mr. Lopez for many years. She was not an easy opponent.
It was just Wendy outsmarting herself and overestimating her abilities.
âMiss Clarke, do I really need to report everything I do and think to you?â Mrs. Lopez asked unhappily, her eyes and expression becoming sharp.
âThatâs not what I meant.â Wendy became alert, realizing her impatience had gotten the better of her.
She racked her brains to turn the conversation around and try to get other information she wanted to know.
However, Mrs. Lopez began to speak again, âThat anger was used up long ago when the first child was brought home.â
âI made a big fuss back then. But after all these years, I know what kind of person old Lopez is,â Mrs. Lopez sneered.
âIf I always took everything so seriously, wouldnât I be constantly angry?â she said.
âOne child in the house is enough. If Cindy doesnât want her child to be there, itâs perfect for me. Why would I go out of my way to cause trouble for myself?â
âAnd, since the child doesnât look like old Lopez, seeing him wouldnât make me associate him with old Lopez, so naturally, I wouldnât get mad either.â
Mrs. Lopez finished the tea in her cup and stood up, âBesides, I have no proof that the child belongs to the Lopez family.â
âI canât get the childâs belongings for a DNA test, and thereâs no evidence based on your word alone. Where could I find the confidence?â
âThereâs no need for me to work so hard for the Lopez family for a child that is not mine. Whatâs in it for me?â Mrs. Lopez mocked.
âSo I saw the child, and thatâs enough. Since the childâs mother doesnât want him, I donât need to interfere. Whether you want to get involved or not, thatâs up to you.â
âAfter all, youâre his sister, you two sisters should handle your own affairs and not involve me,â Mrs. Lopez said.
âSoâ¦â Wendy hesitated, âIf I convince Cindy, would you still welcome her child to the Lopez family?â
âMaking someone do something against their will never ends well. Even if you convince me to bring the child back, he already has a bond with Cindy. They would miss each other, and the child would cry to see Cindy. Cindy might come to bother us from time to time, wanting to see the child. How can we have peace in our house?â
âDoing that would be asking for trouble instead of charity,â Mrs. Lopez sarcastically commented, âDo you think Iâm the kind of person who seeks trouble?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Wendy: ââ¦â
âThe child we have now was brought home when he was just born. Heâs innocent and doesnât know his mother isnât me, nor does he know where his real mother is,â Mrs. Lopez said.
âHis mother has never shown her face.â
As Mrs. Lopez continued, she watched Wendy Clarkeâs expression closely.
Seeing Wendyâs eyes dodge her gaze, Mrs. Lopez withdrew her look.
She hid her eyes, wanting to beat Wendy violently, but she had to restrain herself. A small fit of anger would only ruin her overall plan.
âMy son doesnât know he has another mother, so he wonât complain and ask for her. To him, I am his birth mother,â Mrs. Lopez said.
âI donât worry that his mother will appear because if she wanted him, she wouldnât have abandoned him when he was just a baby,â Mrs. Lopez said.
âCindy, on the other hand, at least raised her child until now,â she continued, âthis would be the situation that would actually worry me.â
Wendyâs eyes flickered.
Apparently, it was time to find an opportunity to meet that child.
She had to do it while he was still young and easily deceived.
