Chapter 821: Showing up is not too good_1
Daddy! Come Home for Dinner!
It was only now that it became clear that he and Adrian Zhekova really were father and son.@@novelbin@@
The little one held his face and shook his head, âI look so much like my dad, why do we need a test? You can tell weâre father and son just by looking at the photos.â
Adrian Zhekova, hearing their sonâs words, was afraid that Cindy Clarke might misunderstand that he didnât trust her.
He hastily coughed and said, âDidnât I have no recollection of how I looked when I was young? Looking at my face in the mirror now, I canât recall how I looked as a child.â
Cindy Clarke laughed, âI didnât blame you, why are you in a rush to explain yourself?â
ââ¦â Adrian Zhekova shook his head and said, âNo, Iâm not in a hurry.â
Cindy Clarke: ââ¦â
Alright, youâre not in a hurry.
Since Gabriel Zhekovaâs family had just arrived, Aunt Evans didnât dare to prepare lunch too early.
If they arrived late and lunch got cold, it would not be good.
But when Gabriel Zhekovaâs family arrived and started talking about looking at photos.
After Aunt Evans helped find the photos, she quickly went to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
The good thing was that all the ingredients were already prepped and just needed to be cooked.
The most troublesome part of cooking is preparing the ingredients.
That is the most time-consuming part.
Once everything is in the pot, it moves quickly.
Aunt Evans said it would be ready in an hour and hurried off to the kitchen.
Cindy Clarke didnât offer to help either.
Because long before Gabriel Zhekovaâs arrival, Old Madam had told Cindy Clarke that today was the Family Feast.
The event was partly meant to introduce Cindy to Gabriel and Jayden Zhekovaâs families.
In other words, Cindy was the star of the day.
If it were only Jayden Zhekovaâs family, letting Cindy cook a couple of dishes to demonstrate her skills wouldnât be a problem.
After all, they were all family.
But because Gabriel Zhekovaâs family was also present, Cindy going into the kitchen would be unwise.
Gabriel Zhekova might perceive it as though Cindy isnât worthy of respect, born to serve others.
Cindyâs role in Zhekova Family was to cook dishes for family members.
Undoubtedly, Old Madam knew that Gabriel Zhekova would see others in this light.
That youngster was an opportunist, always thinking he was right.
Of course, Old Madamâs refusal for Cindy to cook wasnât just because of Gabriel Zhekovaâs opportunism; she genuinely felt that Gabriel Zhekova wasnât worthy of eating Cindyâs cuisine, which she made herself.
Cindyâs cooking was always prepared with heart.
This heartfelt effort wasnât solely for cuisine for the sake of cuisine.
Cindyâs intent, thoughts, and feelings were also included.
Every dish had Cindyâs heartfelt thoughts in it.
In every dish were her feelings that she wanted to express.
Such cuisine was precious.
It wasnât just the ingredients or taste that made it valuable.
It was the thought that Cindy put into it.
A dish contained its makerâs intent.
How often do you get the opportunity to taste such sincere cuisine?
Cindyâs cooking was precious in this way.
But giving it to Gabriel Zhekova would be a waste.
It would waste both Cindyâs delicious cooking and her heartfelt sincerity.
So, when Old Madam spoke, Cindy agreed.
Opportunities to prepare dishes for Jayden Zhekovaâs family would come another time anyway.
No need for it to happen today.
Aunt Evans was in the kitchen busy preparing lunch.
Gabriel Zhekova glanced at Cindy and said, âI heard you did pretty well in the Cooking Competition.â
âI just did my best,â Cindy replied.
She didnât know much about Gabriel Zhekova.
Anyone else saying it, Cindy would smile and say thank you, but who knew Gabriel Zhekovaâs intent?
So, Cindy was cautious.
As expected, Gabriel Zhekova brought it up not to praise Cindy.
He frowned and said solemnly, âBut before you married Adrian, it didnât matter since no one knew about your relationship with him.â
âBut now that you are married to Adrian, appearing on a public competition isnât right.â
Adrian Zhekovaâs face darkened, preparing to speak, but Victoria Wheeler had already beaten him to it: âHow does being married mean she canât make public appearances? This isnât ancient times when women are confined to the house after marriage. What era is this, and youâre still talking like that?â
According to Gabriel Zhekova, should she, too, avoid going out and seeing people after marriage?
Gabriel Zhekova shook his head, âThatâs not what I mean.â
Surprisingly, Gabriel Zhekova wasnât angry at Victoria Wheelerâs attitude.
Instead, he explained, âCan you compare a lady going out for social occasions to participating in a competition with ordinary people?â
âCindy competes on stage with so many spectators. Isnât it just like watching a monkey show? The Cooking Competition is basically a Reality Show.â
âWhatâs a Reality Show? Itâs a show for the audience, to entertain them. Can any member of the Zhekova Family become an amusing spectacle for the public?â
âThose actors, to put it nicely, are stars, but they are just performers. They participate in shows, to amuse the audience.â
âCan we Zhekovas do the same? Can we become jesters?â
Jayden Zhekova didnât like hearing that: âSecond Brother, youâre wrong. Olivia Davis is also an actress, as is Zhiqing. Are they, being from the Hamilton and York families, not allowed to see people? As actresses, should they be looked down upon?â
Gabriel Zhekovaâs face darkened.
His little brother usually didnât help him, but he didnât expect him to belittle him at such a time, siding with Maverick Zhekovaâs family against him.
Gabriel Zhekova blurted out in anger, âThatâs the Hamilton Family and York Familyâs business, how is it comparable to ours? If they donât mind, does that mean we shouldnât either?â
âDonât compare our family with others. Each has its own situation. Otherwise, why divide The Big Eight families? How about merging them all?â
Old Master spoke in a deep voice, âGabriel, youâre just argumentative. I think having Cindy, who is so talented, is a credit to our family.â
âWe are in the catering industry, after all. Cindyâs masterful cooking aligns perfectly with our business.â Old Master said, âWe operate a restaurant, and Cindy is a chef. Itâs ideal for our family.â
âBesides, Cindy is our granddaughter-in-law, Maverick and Victoriaâs daughter-in-law, Adrianâs wife. Your Aunt and I donât find it inappropriate or shameful for Cindy to participate in the competition,â Old Master turned to Old Madam, âDonât you agree?â
âYes,â Old Madam nodded.
Old Master then asked Maverick Zhekova and Victoria Wheeler, âWhat about you two?â
