Prescott
I paced around my office, waiting for Matilda and her Mom to join us. Dad was disappointed to see how I neglected my duty and didnât come to the meeting.
How could I when my wife was saying that she would leave me?
âAlpha Mason, do you even know what your son just did?â Camilla entered the room, her eyes blazing fire.
âCan we talk about urgent matters rather than silly things?â I suggested, trying to put on a platonic face to hide my anger.
âDylan has attacked your neighbor pack and has asked the Alpha to either join him or lose his mate,â Alpha Sheldon said, glaring at his mate.
I could tell that they were mind-linking each other and having an intense argument because the weather changed as Camillaâs brows furrowed and her strong aura. surrounded her.
âWhat did you do this time?â Dad asked as if I was still five and needed scolding from him.
H
âNothing. I would like to focus on work right now,â I replied and cut the link.
Matilda stepped in and squeezed her motherâs elbows.
âRelax, Mom. Everything is fine,â Matilda told her and held her hand before sliding into the chair next to me with her mother beside her.
âHow are you finding all this information about Dylan?â I peered at her suspiciously.
âI have my
ve my connections in the witch clans just like he had his pawns in your pack,â she replied in a cl*pped tone.
I could tell from her demeanor that she was hiding something.
âKeep an eye on her but be careful. The woman is too smart for her own good. I want detail of her every movement, I told my Beta and he nodded his head slightly.
A knock on my office door made everyone turn their eyes at Lola who was standing there in fear.
âCome in, Lola,â I told her softly. She was still in mourning and I had hurt her more.
Matilda threw daggers at her but chose to stay nonchalant about her presence.

âPerhaps you should focus on your daughter more than the outsiders,â I taunted Camilla.
She clenched her fist and rose from her seat to leave.
âStay seated,â I commanded her, and everyone in the room was stunned to see me using my command on my wifeâs mother.
âHow dare you,â she muttered through gritted teeth but sat back nonetheless.
Î
âYou canât use your command on my Mom,â Matilda growled, banging her hands on the table.
âShe shouldnât have hidden the things from me, then,â I barked, not letting her have her way this time.
Her family was at fault and if Lola wouldnât have told me, I never would have found out about it.
âJericho, bring Avery here,â I ordered my Gamma who bowed to me and left instantly.
âWhat the f uck is happening here,â Dad exclaimed. âAvery needs rest after shifting. She had a tough time.â
âLetâs hear from her how much hard time she faced or someone elseâs family is facing. now because of her,â I said calmly.
Jericho brought her and her eyes met Lolaâs. I could smell fear in her features, proving what Lola said was true.
âWhy weâre your hands bloody after shifting?â I asked her directly.
Averyâs heart started pounding loudly like a deer caught in th
headline. âI⦠I⦠Myâ¦
Alpha Prescott. Iâ¦â She stuttered, keeping her gaze fixated on her mother.
âWhat kind of question is that? What are you trying to say, Alpha Prescott?â Sheldon, asked, raising his voice at me for the first time.
âYou must love your young daughter,â I smiled at him and got up from my chair. âI will stop beating around the bushes now. So tell me, Avery Spencer, is this the guy you killed the night you shifted?â
I showed his picture to her and her eyes widened in horror. Her jaw dropped and her shivering hands flew to her mouth.
âYou canât suspect my daughter from a mere accusation by your ex-girlfriend,â Camilla screamed in fury.

I smirked, seeing how foolish she was. âI didnât even mention yet that Lola told me about this. Anyway, I found out from my warriorâs family that Alpha Sheldon gave them a hefty amount of money and told them to move to another pack.â
Alpha Sheldon stole a glance from me, looking anywhere but me. âAs the previous Alpha King, itâs my habit to visit the families of the deceased after the attack and compensate them.â
âI must say you are so thoughtful and kind but Iâm not able to understand why you suggested they move to another pack?â I flashed a bitter smile at him.
*Because as long as they stay here, they wonât be able to move on,â Camilla said confidently. âYouâre suspecting my mateâs kindness.â
âAvery, I encourage you to speak the truth. Your parents are hiding it but will you be able to live your life happily knowing that you killed an innocent wolf accidentally?â I tried to confront Avery.
âYes, I did it,â she confessed, clutching the fabric of her dress.
The tears rolled down her cheeks but she soon wiped them and looked at me hopefully. âYouâre right. I accidentally killed that wolf after shifting. When I shifted back into my human form, I found my hands covered in his blood. Iâm ready to face the punishment rather than live with that burden,â she spoke in one breath.
I got up and patted her head. âIâm so proud of you for speaking the truth. You should have trusted me and confided in me sooner. I wouldnât punish you for the mistake you
didnât commit.â
âWhat do you mean?â Avery asked, perplexed, not expecting that from me.
âThere was an omega who also saw this and she reported it to my Beta but the warrior was already dead by the time he reached you,â I told her and noticed her family heaving a sigh in relief.
âI might punish people mercilessly but I never punish an innocent. I told my men to start the investigation but thankfully, Lola told me that she saw you trying to save that warrior in your wolf form, thatâs why your hands were bloody. Since it was your first shifting, youâll get your memories back around one week,â I added.
âWhy didnât you inform me of any of this?â Matilda whined.
âYou also knew this but instead of acting like an Alpha Queen, you kept it from me and acted like a cowardly selfish Queen who put her familyâs interests first,â I reprimanded
her.
She was naive to think that she could keep things from me in my pack. Every wall of

this pack was loyal to me.
âIâm sorry, Alpha Prescott,â Avery apologized sincerely. âI was so scared but I wonât use this excuse to justify my mistake.â
âItâs okay, kiddo. You may leave now,â I dismissed her after hugging her.
âInstead of blaming my friend, you guys should thank her,â I said, referring to Lola, âshe saved your daughter, or else the blame would have been on her.â
âExcuse me,â Matilda whispered and left my office hastily.
âThank you, Miss Lola,â Alpha Sheldon thanked her while Camilla chose to remain
silent.
âWhat have you found out about Dylan this time?â I questioned, looking at Camilla.

âBefore he unites our packs, we should unite our packs and fight against him together,â Dad suggested and I completely agreed with him.
âLetâs invite them to our pack and do this,â I said grimly.
âDonât you think that Dylan would kill them before they reach you, Lola pointed out.
âWhat should we do, then?â I asked her, trusting her judgment. She wasnât just pretty, she was a smart and intelligent she-wolf.
âMaybe an online meeting would be a better option and the councilâs involvement. would be helpful, she suggested.
âA small change in plan. Letâs arrange this meeting online due to lack of time and safety
issues and invite the council, too,â I told my father.
