Chapter 24

ISABEL

I was unable to catch up with Logan so I took the bold and went to his office. I was nervous but I wanted his help.

1 needed him to help us because he had the power to. I didn’t know how to go about it or what his response would be but I wanted to try.

“I already told you that I do not want to be disturbed,” Logan said and I guessed he was referring to his secretary who wasn’t at his desk when I came

He was looking out through the glass window, so he was backing me.

I gathered up the courage. “It’s me…Isabel.”

Logan spun his chair around so that he could face me and he didn’t have a pleasing expression on his face it would have been better if he had a frown on his face instead his facial expression was blank 1 couldn’t tell what was going on in his mind.

“Where’s my secretary and how did he let you in?” He asked, clasping his finger.

All the little details of him at that moment didn’t go unnoticed by me because I tend to take notes every time the situation is

tense.

“I want to speak to you.” I ignored his question and decided to say what it was that brought me here because I didn’t t put the secretary in a tough position afterward.

“About? Why am I even asking? I don’t want to speak with you so leave.” He stated firm and stern.

I swallowed the invisible lump that formed in my throat. He sounded cold and not the usual way he would speak to me but I expected it.

“Can you please give me…”

“I said leave.” He cuts me off.

“You what? I just said that you should leave and you still want to speak to me? About what? I don’t want to see you, don’t you get it? Leave before I call the security and have them throw you out,” he warned.

I should listen to him and leave after all that’s what I’ve been telling him to do but I didn’t move an inch. I didn’t feel the need to unless I had told him what it was that brought me here.

“I can’t. Just the same way you won’t leave each time I ask you to leave once,” I used his action against him.

“Oh, is that what we are doing now?”

1 folded my arms across my chest. “I don’t know but what I know right now is that I want to talk to you and I won’t be leaving until I speak to you.”

“Oh, he chuckled.

“You want to talk? I thought you didn’t want to speak to me. So why do you suddenly want to speak to me by all means?”

“I’m sure you…”

“If you want me to listen to you then you will have to listen to me but I suddenly don’t want to spe anymore so there’s no need. Leave.”

“I don’t care if you want to listen or not. What matters now isn’t you but me. What matters now is that I want to speak…..”

“You sound so confident thinking you’d get what you want? Are you deaf or you’ve refused to listen to what I said? I said leave. There’s nothing for us to speak about.” He cuts me off.

“Why are you acting this way? I thought you wanted me to work for you that was why you paid thrice the money so why did you pull out suddenly?” I decided to speak instead of begging him to listen.

“How could you go and have babies with another man? Just four years and you already had kids that walk? How old are they? When did you have them and how long have you been with that ba stard?” He replied to my question with another question.

“That’s not your problem and that’s my personal life. Leave it out of business,” I remarked.

He let out a hysterical laugh. “Excuse me? Personal life? Well, this is my personal life too and I don’t want to speak to you about it.”

I scoffed in disbelief. “You are kidding right?”

“Oh, you heard right.” He retorted.

“Alright, you win and I give up. I lifted my arms in surrender.

“Please don’t punish Leah because of me. I’m sure you already heard the news and you know what’s happening. Please help me.” I pleaded.

“Help you? Did 1 hear you say those words from your mouth?” He clicked his tongue.

“How long have you been with him? How old are the kids? Two? Wow. You sure have a skill. And I thought you claimed to be” hurt but it seems you weren’t and you’ve been lying.”

I glared at him. “You don’t know that.”

“Then enlighten me. Enlighten me, Isabel! Enlighten me just how fast it was for you to move on while I suffered and felt like my whole world was done! Enlighten me how you were able to have two kids with another man and still claim that you are hurt and I’m the reason your life fell apart! Enlighten me!” He raised his voice.

He sounded hurt from his tone. His eyes were red too.

I didn’t know what to say to him. How could he be hurt when he was the one who hurt me and now he was accusing me of what he had no idea about?

“You don’t know anything.” I repeated.

“That’s why I’m asking you to enlighten me. Kindly tell me what I don’t know so that I’m able to sleep at night without wanting to kill that b astard and those kids!” He voiced out.

I felt my heart clench from the words he just uttered. If only he knew they were his kids and when he shattered my heart four years ago, I was already pregnant for him.

I wouldn’t tell him. I already vowed to never tell him for that was his punishment for breaking my heart on a day that was supposed to be my best.

“Don’t say those words and don’t make me angry,” I warned.

“Make you angry? Then leave. I don’t want to see you anyway because seeing you only reminds me of your sins against me.”

“Are you kidding me? Sins? What do you mean by that? You are the one who has sinned against me. You shattered and broke my heart! You jilted me, rejected me, and kicked me out yet you want to act like you are the victim!” I yelled at him.

“Everything I did was for you! I rejected you for you! I left you for you! I didn’t do it because I wanted to but because I had to! I had to take that step to save you and your father! That’s all 1 did!” He voiced out taking me by surprise.

“What do you mean by that? What you did was for me and my father? How?” My voice was lower than I anticipated.

“Yes. You heard right. All I did was you and that’s it. I had to take that step to protect you or else you’d have lost your father. Do you know how hurt I was? Do you know how it broke me to know that I wouldn’t be with you but with Jade? Do you even

know!”

I ran my finger through my hair, still trying to digest the information I had just received.

“What… what do you mean?” I stuttered, stunned by the revelation that didn’t seem to make sense to me but I understood

his words.

“What I meant is that when I left you four years ago. It wasn’t because I wanted to or I had plans to, it was because I had no choice. Two nights before our wedding, I was called by my father. Your father was accused of being a traitor to the pack and there were eye witnesses and evidence to prove that.” He exhaled deeply and continued.

“My father wanted to kill you Father and also you because you are his daughter and cannot be spared as you’d be the daughter of a traitor. I didn’t believe it. I denied it and refused to but my father already made up his mind with the evidence considering that he had been looking for means to get rid of you and behind the dictator that he was, he had ordered for your father and you to be brought before him!”

“I pleaded with him, asking him not to and I’d do anything to make sure he doesn’t. I told him I would do anything just to make sure you aren’t killed and to save you, I was told to marry Jade. It was the only way. I was to leave you on the day of our wedding and get married to Jade,”

“I didn’t want to. I pleaded for another alternative but that seems to be the only choice I had. It broke me. I cried. I couldn’t look at you and not feel bad for what is to come knowing well that you looked forward to that day.”

As I listened to him speak, I didn’t realize that tears were already streaming down my cheek. I could remember the night before our supposed wedding day. I asked if something was wrong when I saw tears in his eyes but he told me it was tears of joy that we’d finally be together.

It suddenly made sense to me but I couldn’t also ignore what he said. Who framed my father and what was he talking about? A traitor? My father would never do that. He dedicated his whole life to the pack.

“I married Jade because I wanted to save you. I did all I had to do because of you and I know how badly you were hurt. You didn’t know how broken I was to see you go. I was shattered. I lost focus and felt myself down for years. It was even worse when you left.”

“I searched for you for years and when I finally found you, you didn’t want anything to do with me. That’s understandable and I was ready to rectify that but you wouldn’t let me. You kept reminding me of what I did and Laccepted it, pleading for a chance but all these years I was crying and drowning…” he trailed off, now looking at me with so much anger in his eyes.

“All those years I was crying for you. Feeling bad and beating myself up. You.. how could you Isabel? Being with him isn’t the problem but having children that walk already? Please tell me you aren’t the children’s mother,” he cried.

I have only seen Logan break down once. Seeing him in this state made me realize that he was honest and he was hurt. I didn’t know what to do or what to say.

As much as I wanted to let things go after hearing what he had just said, I couldn’t. I just couldn’t.

“I didn’t know that. Thank you.” I said instead, my mouth saying something else.

“Thank you? Really? Is that all? Did you even hear what I said?” He asked.

“I heard you Logan and as I said before, it’s all in the past now. Let’s focus on the present.” I stated firmly.

His facial expression changed almost immediately but I wasn’t phased by it. “Alright then.”

“You came here wanting me to help you or is it Leah? That’s fine have an ultimatum for you. If you want me to help you then you will have to do something for me in return.” He said.
