ISABEL

It has been over three weeks since I last Logan. I know I was the one who told him to stay away. I should have been happy that he’d found what I wanted but instead, I wasn’t.

I felt his absence and I disliked that I did. I haven’t seen him around and even at meetings where he was supposed to be, he didn’t come but sent a representative instead.

He respected my demand and decided not to show up for anything.

“Focus Isabel! Focus!” I complained bitterly when I realized that hadn’t been doing what I was supposed to be doing but instead thinking of my ex and baby daddy.

“How is everything going Chef Payne?” I snapped back to reality when I heard Leah’s voice. We were back to work and everyone was patronizing the restaurant as usual.

“It… I trailed off when I realized that I forgot what it was that I kept in the gas.

“Oh my goodness!” I gasped, quickly walking over to where I was cooking to check on what I was doing.

“What were you thinking? I hope the food isn’t burnt?” Leah’s asked, following hot on mg trail.

“I was just a little… whatever but it’s not burnt. It’s all fine and I will try to con…” I trailed off when I realized that I didn’t know what it was I was saying.

“I hope all is well though. Is it?” She asked.

“Are you fine?” She asked and I nodded my head.

Me ntally, I cursed Logan for he was the one who got me distracted. If only he didn’t listen to me and did otherwise, maybe I’d be so angry at him and want him far away but instead, he has decided to stay away just as I have requested.

It didn’t sit well with me. I was angry at myself at the same time and I disliked how distracted I was by it.

Later that day, I closed from work and decided to go get some coffee before heading home.

“A cup of latte please,” I ordered.

“Alright.”

Shortly I got my latte and headed out. As I was walking, I bumped into someone.

“I’m so sorry.” I heard a masculine voice,”

“It’s… alright,” I said but halted when I saw the face of the person had bumped into.

“Raymond?” I called, surprised to see him because it had been a long time since I last saw him.

Raymond and I weren’t close but new as skeins who helped me back at the pack house..

“Long time no see Isabel,” He said.

I smiled. “Long time no see.”

“How have you been?”

Tve been good and you? I didn’t think I’d bump into you today of all day,” I remarked.

“Yes. Ever since I saw you at the hospital, I haven’t seen you. It has been four years since we last saw. How has everything been? I hope it’s all good with you?”

I nodded my head. “Yes, it is. I., I am stunned honestly. I didn’t think we’d see today.”

“I honestly didn’t think I’d come across you today. It’s honestly nice to see you healthy. Where are you heading to now?” He asked.

“I just got coffee and I am going home,” I replied,

“Oh, I see. I want to get a cup of coffee too. If you don’t mind wait a little so we can sit and talk and catch up you know? Or are you in a haste?” He asked.

I shook my head. “No, I’m not.”

“Alright then. That’s good. He replied.

He ordered his cup of coffee and we went to sit.

“Are you married now?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“No. I’m not.” He replied.

“Why? You never found a mate or you refused to get married?” questioned.

“Well, I have a mate but I’m not ready for that let’s not talk about me. Let’s talk about you. You look good honestly. The good type and I’m sure Alpha Logan would be happy to see you again.

When he mentioned Logan, I was immediately reminded of the fact that we hadn’t seen for three weeks simply because I asked for him to give me space.

My anger resurfaced again.

“Logan?” I tried to act like I hadn’t seen him and it had been a long time since I heard his name because Raymond seer to not be aware that we’d met from the way he was speaking.

“Yes. He hasn’t been happy since you left you know.” He said.

“What do you mean?” I couldn’t help but ask inquisitively.

“It’s not in my place to speak” He said.

“What do you mean by that? If it’s not in your place to speak then why did you begin the conversation? I’d advise you speak because now that you have started it, I’d love to get to the end of it.” I smiled, pressing my lips firmly.

“You know Logan loves you right?”

“Enough to jilt me at the altar and make me an object of ridicule Alright, that’s true then. He does excruciatingly like me.” I replied.

“No. I’m serious. You know he does. For the prince that he was, he went against everything just to be with you his mate, even against his father. I’m sure you might have thought there was a reason behind it because honestly there was a reason.” He explained.

Logan already said rose reasons to me but it wouldn’t be bad to hear from his angle too.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“Logan jilted you at the altar not because he used you or anything but to protect you. He had no choice and to protect you, he decided what was best for you.” He answered.

“For years he hasn’t been himself. He moved out from the parlance and went to get a place for himself. He never for once shared a room with Jade. He has been in pain for years, wishing that he hadn’t done what he did.”

If I had heard this for the first time, maybe my reaction would have been different but hearing this from another made me convinced completely. I believed Logan when he told me but now I was fully convinced.

Logan has always loved me and he did what he had to do because of the lies concocted by Jade’s father.

Now that I thought about it, it made sense. Jade has always been obsessed with Logan. Even before he returned, she considered herself his and was treated like the future Luna of the pack. She wasn’t pleased when she knew I was Logan’s mate and when he accepted me, she vowed to make my life a living hell.

She disliked me and she never hid it. She looked for reasons to get me in trouble. Logan had protected me while hurting me. He hurt me to protect me and that thought made my eyes filled with tears.

I fought back the tears that threatened to slip down my cheek.

“I know he’d be happy when he finds out that you are here. He loves you, Isabel. He always has and he always will and if he sees you now, he’d do anything to have your forgiveness and I hope that you’d forgive him.”

“Forgive him? Is that a request?” I asked.

“I mean I don’t know and I mean you might have another in your life so pardon me for being too quick. I just…”

“It’s fine.” I cut him off.

“Thanks for telling me all of that. Now let’s focus on you.” I decided to brush aside the topic.

“Focus on me? What is there about me that could be talked about?”

“Oh well, I don’t know,” I shrugged. “You tell me.

“I’m not married. I’m Logan’s beta and I have a girl I’m interested in but she’s not interested in me and she even went as fa

far as denying me when I saw her so that’s it,” he said and I chuckled.

“What? You mean you like someone? Wow.”

“That’s karma dealing with me for refusing my mate and wanting another,” He chuckled.

“Maybe that’s it but what’s wrong with your mate that you don’t want her but you want another? Is she from the same pack?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“If it’s the woman I like? She’s not from the same pack. She seems like a lone wolf and if it’s my mate, she’s from the pack. It’s not like there’s anything wrong with her but I’m not just into her and that’s it,” he explained.

“Hmm.” 1 hummed.

“I’m serious thought but it’s fine. I will get over her and it’s just time. Besides I haven’t rejected my mate. I just didn’t accept her so I don’t even know what’s wrong with me at the same time

“Maybe you should try and get to know your mate. She might turn out to be the best and for the other woman, let her go. You know sometimes the people we want might not be the best option for us,” I advised.
