EMMA

My mom helped me to zip up my dress. I looked at myself in the mirror and how adorable I was.

“You look beautiful. I’m so proud to be your mother. You don’t know how happy I am to know that you came from me. Happy birthday once again my darling,” my mom said.

I turned to look at her. “Thanks so much, mom,” I replied.

She escorted me out of my dressing room and towards the place where the birthday celebration would be taking place. I met my twin brother halfway who was escorted by my dad.

The MC announced my twin brother and I’s presence. “Everyone. The celebrant.” The Mc announced as my brother and I joined them.

Everyone cheered for our presence. We both walked down the stairs with her parents following us behind as they usually would while everyone stared at us.

While everyone stared at us, I only looked for one person in the crowd and that was Sean. The minute my eyes met his, my heart skipped and that’s when I noticed what he was wearing.

He was wearing a two-piece black suit with a purple bow tie and also purple shoes. It all made sense to me that moment why he had asked me what color I’d be wearing.

What are his plans and what does he have in mind? I honestly wanted to know because I didn’t want to conclude that he might have feelings for me the same way I did.

My brother and I went to stand in front of our tower cake and the me began the introduction.

“Today is the seventeenth birthday of Ethan Reign Smith and Emma Reina Smith, daughter of Isabel Smith and Logan Smith.” The Me announced and everyone cheered

Reign and Reina, the name of it dad gave to us after he and mon came together. Since Mom gave us Emma and Ethan, Dad decided to give us a name too. Reign means sovereign and Reina means Queen.

“The parents will be giving their speech first and afterwards we will sing a birthday song for the celebrant and cut the cake,” the Mc announced.

Dad was the one who took the microphone to speak first as Mom said he should.

Dad cleared his throat. “I honestly don’t know where to start,” he began.

“So, I do care for my children a lot and anyone who knows me knows that I won’t miss their birthday or anything important to them for the world. Since today is about my kids, I will only talk about how much joy they’ve brought into my life.”

He turned to look at us. “Emma and Ethan, thanks so much for coming into my life and bringing a smile to my face. Thanks so much for cheering me up and making me laugh. Thanks for watching movies with me and calling me dad. I am proud to be your father and I promise to continue doing my best to make sure you are both happy.”

My heart melted from Dad’s speech.

Mom took the microphone to speak.

“Emma and Ethan, happy birthday. It has been seventeen years of celebrating you and I look forward to celebrating more with you. I love you both and wish you only the best life has to offer and nothing less. Thanks for giving me the privilege to

As the celebration continued. I got to meet some of my distant relationships and also Aunt Adeline was present. I was so happy to see her and her kids.

Aunt Adeline has the best energy and she knows how to make me laugh. Dad’s best friend and aunt Adeline’s husband Raymond was present

Most of the people from my high school who came were here mostly because of Ethan. Only Lola came for me and she complimented my dress and gave me a gift.

I haven’t spoken to Sean since the party started. Our eyes met a few times but we didn’t speak. He has been busy or rather avoiding me and I don’t get it yet.

He had already spoken to Ethan and I thought that he’d find his way over to me but he seemed to be by Ethan’s side and that made me a little sad..

I know that Ethan is his best friend but he mentioned I was an exemption or maybe I misunderstood the meaning of that.

I tried not to let that ruin my mood because it was my big day and the day hadn’t come to an end yet. He’s likely to still come after all we still have some things to speak about.

“You keep staring in the direction of Sean. I don’t know if I might be getting it wrong but is there something going on between the both of you?” Lola asked.

I was startled at first as I didn’t notice her presence and the fact that she caught me staring.

“Well, if it helps, he keeps looking at you the same way so what’s going on? You might want to share.” She nudged my arms.

“What are you talking about! I don’t know what it is that you are talking about?” I tried to act like I had no idea what she was

“Oh please. I’m your friend and besides I have eyes. Also, you can trust me you know so tell me, what’s going on?” She asked.

“What do you mean by what’s going on?” I acted as if I didn’t understand.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to tell her but I wasn’t sure I wanted to let it out considering I don’t even know where I stand with him and what the purpose of our conversation tonight would be

I didn’t know how to explain to her or tell her my feelings.

“Alright, I will just say it but don’t say anything until I’m done speaking okay?” I said to her and she nodded her head

I looked around. Here won’t be the best place to have any conversation because it was going to be a long conversation so! took her upstairs to my dressing room to speak to her.

“Okay, here it is. I’ve been crushing on Scan for a long time. I like him. He was my friend but we stopped being close but I have always liked him. I don’t know how he feels about me but lately, things have been different between us and before tonight he asked for the color of my dress to match and also he said he had something to say to me tonight,” I explained.

“Oh my goodness!” She voiced out in excitement.

“You don’t sound shocked,” I remarked.

“Of course, because I saw you staring at him and I can tell what you were feeling,” she replied.

“It’s not like we have a conversation really but he said if I didn’t tell him my birthday wish then I’d have to ask hints anything and he’d grant me a wish,” I added.

“Hmm and let me guess what that wish would be?” She smirked,

“You are planning to ask him to be your boyfriend?”

I blushed at the mention of the word boyfriend.

“Oh, my goodness. I would never have thought you’d have it in you to make the first move but that’s not bad. So that explains why you’ve been looking at him,” she mentioned and I nodded my head in confirmation.

“Exactly. We are supposed to speak but he’s not speaking to me instead he’s doing everything except coming to find me. I want to be alone with him. I don’t know but I thought tonight… trailed off sighing.

“Tonight what?” She asked.

“1 even imagined having my first kiss today but now I don’t even know if it’s going to happen,” I confessed.

“It’s going to be fine. I mean the night is far from over and I’m sure he’d come to speak to you either now or later after all why would he say that if he has no intention? So relax okay?” She said to me and I nodded my head with a smile on my face.”

“That’s true. There’s still time and hopefully, he will come to speak to me,” I said to her.

“That’s my girl so let’s go back to the party before they begin to look for the birthday girl,” she chuckled.

“Are you in there Em?”

I froze on the spot when I heard my favorite male voice after my dad. It was Sean and hearing his voice made my heart s kip.

A grin formed on Lola’s face when she looked at me.

“I told you,” she whispered.

“Em? Are you in there?” He called again.

I took in a deep breath and exhaled before replying.”

“Yes I am.” I replied.

“Can I come in?” He asked.

“I will be leaving the both of you for now then,” Lola said as she walked towards the door. I smiled at her gratefully.

“Thank you.” I mouthed.

“Yea. Of course.” I replied.

Lola opened the door to leave while Sean came in.

“Hey,” he said as he walked towards me.

“Hi,” I replied trying not to sound nervous that it was just he and I here.

“Happy birthday Em.” He said with a smile, moving closer to me

“Thank you.” I replied.

“You look gorgeous tonight. I’ve been wanting to say that all night,” he said and my heart slipped from his compliment
