âYes.â
âWhat is it? Do you need to go to the hospital?â
âNo, my bellyâs hurting. I need a restaurant,â she said innocently.
Wesley felt defeated. Just as he was about to refuse, Blair cut in, âMy treat. Itâs the least I can do. You
saved me.â
âIâm a soldier. It was my duty.â Wesley wanted to leave.
Blair added, âMy uncle asked you to check on me. Iâm starving. Are you really going to just walk away?â
âIs that a threat?â Wesley hated being threatened.
Blair shook her head like a rattle.
âNo, no. Itâs okay if you donât want to have dinner with me. Tell you what-go home, shower, change. I
have enough here in the house. Iâll cook dinner. Come over, make sure

Iâm fine, and then you can take off again. What do you say?â
Wesley gave her a long Look and turned around without a word to go back to his apartment.
âHey, yes or no? You havenât given me an answer yet.â If he agreed, she would go to the kitchen and
start cooking now.
Wesley opened his door and turned around impatiently.
âWeâll see.â
âHe is as cold as an iceberg, â Blair thought.
The next time someone opened her apartment door, Blair was in the kitchen, ready to saute some
vegetables and meat.
Wesley had changed into casual clothes. Standing at the door, he asked,
âYou ever Lock your door?â
Blair answered without turning back, âNot really here. No one else lives on our floor. Why bother?â
Itâs just you and me
Then, Wesley lectured her as if he were talking to a child.
âItâs dangerous. You donât know who else might walk in.â
âOkay, okay. Fine. Any foods you donât like?â asked Blair as she poured some cooking oil into the wok
after putting it on the stove. Before he answered, she muttered, âProbably not. My uncle said one time
you guys had to eat grass to survive. I canât even!â
Wesley was reduced to silence. âEat grass? What are we? Sheep?â
While Blair was cooking in the kitchen, Wesley Looked around her Living room. It Looked quite safe.
Adalson might have helped set the place up.
