Chapter 300
Burning Passion: Love Never Die
âHuh?â Carlos was confused. âWhy is it my fault?â
Debbie bent over the desk listlessly and told him, âI had a bet with
Kasie and I lostâ¦â
âA bet on going hiking?â Carlos guessed and he was right.
âYes,â she answered.
Carlos was amused. with Kasie. Okay?â
Come to my office for lunch Later. Iâll sort it out
âNo. I Lost the bet, so Iâll buy Kasie Lunch for a month. We had a deal,â Debbie declared.
âDeb, I was kidding. It doesnât matter you buy me Lunch or not. Donât take it too seriously,â said Kasie.
They were good friends. Even if Debbie broke her word, Kasie wouldnât mind.
âPut Kasie on the phone. Iâd like to talk to her.â Carlos knew how much friendship meant to Debbie. And
her word was her bond. He decided to help her out.
âEr⦠what do you want to say to her?â Debbie got tense when Carlos said he wanted to speak to
Kasie. âWhat in the world does he want to say to her?!
Carlos laughed, âRelax, honey. Iâm just trying to help. Donât worry. I wonât tell her how great last night
was.â
Debbie blushed and explained hurriedly, âNo, no. Thatâs not what I mean. Why do you want to speak to
her? Never mind. Iâll put her on the phone right now.â
Then she handed the phone to Kasie. It was only then that her friend realized that Carlos wasnât joking
earlier. Kasie stared at the phone, scared, as if it would bite her. Gnawing her index finger, she asked,
âCarlosâ¦Carlos wants to talk to me? For real?â
Debbie blinked with a nod.
âYeah, for real.â
Kasie immediately put her phone down and before taking Debbieâs, she wiped her hand on her clothes,
as if afraid that the phone would be stained.
âHi, Carlos,â she greeted him respectfully.
Watching her friendâs dramatic reaction, Debbie was rendered speechless.
Carlos said something over the phone and Kasie explained nervously,
âNo, Carlos, I was just joking. It really didnât mean anything. Please donât take it seriously. Iâve barely
spent a dime of the card you gave me last time. Debbie and I were really just fooling around a moment
ago.â
Hoping to convince Carlos, Kasie used the word âreallyâ repeatedly, stressing it every time she said it.
Then she paused as Carlos responded to her explanation. Debbie couldnât hear what he said easily.
This time, Kasie nodded resignedly, âOkay then. Thank you, Carlos.â
