Chapter 388
Burning Passion: Love Never Die
Then, he continued eating the noodles as if what Megan had just said wasnât a big deal.
Silence befell the dining room. With an embarrassed smile, Megan tried to defend herself by saying,
âYou know, Iâm not a girl who speaks ill of other people behind their backs. But⦠Uncle Carlos, you
need to understand that Iâm only saying this for your sake. To be honest, a woman like Debbie doesnât
deserve
âMegan!â Carlos interrupted her in a stern voice.
Tears welled up in Meganâs eyes as she continued stubbornly, âUncle
Carlos, you never used to scold me for anything. But ever since Debbie popped up from nowhere⦠If
she behaved herself, Iâd be willing to call her my aunt. But youâve seen it with your own eyes. She has
a close relationship with Jared and even dated another man while you were away.â
Carlos put down the chopsticks, picked up a tissue to clean his mouth, and said with an emotionless
face, âMegan, youâve misunderstood her.
She and Jared have been good friends for many years. Do not say such things ever again, okay? Go to
bed early.â
Then, he stood up from his seat, adjusted his suit, and walked toward the gates of the villa.
Megan jumped to her feet, trotted after him and held his waist as he changed his shoes. She pressed
her cheek against his back and pleaded,
âUncle Carlos, please donât be angry at me. I just want you to be happy.â
Carlos was not pleased with how she was acting. He shifted away from her and said in a cold voice, âI
know what you meant to say, but youâre overreacting. Itâs very late. You need to sleep now.â
Sensing that he was in a bad mood, Megan took a step back and said obediently, âIâm glad you know
that, Uncle Carlos. Iâll go to bed now.
Have a safe drive.â
Megan knew how to manipulate Carlosâ mood. As expected, his face softened at her words. He nodded
and left the villa.
Inside his Emperor car, Carlos leaned back against his seat with his eyes shut.
Emmett, the driver, stole a glance at his boss and then, carefully choosing his words, said, âCarlos, we
have to attend the open tender in the nearby city tomorrow morning. When are we leaving for the city?â
The open tender was very important to the Hilton Group and it was why
Carlos had gone out of town in the first place. But after hearing
Debbie say that she missed him, heâd squeezed out some time in his schedule and rushed back to
Alorith.
Silence befell the car. Emmett could tell that Carlos was in a bad mood. Since Carlos didnât respond,
Emmett didnât pursue the topic again.
Just then, Emmettâs phone rang. With one hand on the wheel, he answered it.
âHello, this is⦠What?! When? Okay, got it. Thank you. Bye!â
After hanging up, he cast a careful glance at his boss sitting in the back seat, then cleared his throat
and said, âEr⦠Carlos, something has happened to Debbie.â
Carlosâ eyes flew open, and his piercing gaze sent a chill running down
Emmettâs spine. Emmett wanted nothing more than to hit the brakes and ditch the car to get as far
away from his boss as possible.
