Chapter 509
Burning Passion: Love Never Die
âJames Hilton!â Carlos called out his fatherâs name as he stood up from the couch and put an arm
around Debbie. He had kept silent all this time in the study, not giving a damn about what James said.
In fact, he had even dozed off during Jamesâ tirade. He had heard it all before, and it bored him silly.
But he couldnât bear to see James belittling
Debbie.
James didnât expect his son to argue with him over a woman. He pointed at Carlos with a shaking hand
and said through gritted teeth,
âUngrateful cur!â Hardly had his voice faded away when he threw a thick book at Carlos.
âWatch out!â Debbie shouted, and held Carlos to protect him. The book hit her arm and then fell to the
floor.
She gave a choked cry; that really stung. Luckily, it was winter, and she was wearing thick clothes.
Otherwise, she might have gotten hurt.
âDebbie!â Carlos grabbed her arm and rolled up her sleeve to check if she was okay.
Debbie heaved a sigh of relief and gave Carlos a wide grin.
âIâm okay.
Donât worry. It doesnât hurt much.â
âWhy did you do that?â he asked through gritted teeth. âWhy did you try and protect me? Why didnât you
move out of the way? You know kung fu. silly woman!â he cursed inwardly.
With an embarrassed smile, Debbie replied in a low voice, âI was too nervous to remember you know
kung fu as well.â Carlos was better at kung fu than Debbie. He had had several years of formal
instruction, and was a 2nd dan black belt. It was a piece of cake for him to dodge the book.
He was tense and worried until he saw that Debbieâs arm was okay.
It only made James feel worse when he saw the couple care for each other so much.
âStop showing off! Debbie Nelson, Iâll be frank. Youâre not part of the family. If you promise youâll
divorce him when youâre back in Alorith, you can stay here for a couple of days.â
Carlos was about to say something when Debbie grabbed his hand. She knew it was time for her to
make a stand.
She stood straight with her head held high.
âGrandma, Uncle, Dad, sorry
I make you unhappy,â she began, Looking at them with no fear.
âI donât know why you donât like me, but Iâm Carlosâ wife. Weâve been married for more than three
years, and we love each other. Weâll go through thick and thin together. Whether you accept me or not,
I wonât give up on him as long as he doesnât ask for a divorce.â
Carlos held her hand in his, and this bolstered her courage. She went on, âNo one gets a say in our
marriage, except me and Carlos. And my temperâs short. Dad, if you keep on treating us like this, I
wonât put up with it just because youâre his father.â
James was stunned, while Valerie stared at her Like a poisonous snake.
Debbie, however, didnât flinch.
âSorry, I guess I said too much. In short, no one is gonna split us up. And Iâll come at anyone who tries
to harm Carlos. Family members should care for each other. You should be happy to see Carlos have a
happy married life. But on the contrary, youâre all mad at him. You just want him to marry a woman that
you like, even if he doesnât want to. Are you really Carlosâ family?â
Confusion could be seen in Debbieâs eyes.
