Chapter 982
Burning Passion: Love Never Die
In the evening, under a starlit countryside sky, Millie helped her grandma clean the house after dinner,
while Bruce sat in the yard, smoking.
Millie emerged with a plate of oranges, her face glowing with a warm smile.
âI just picked them. Theyâre fresh.â
Bruce discarded his cigarette and accepted an orange, appreciating the calm around them.
âThe countryside is so peaceful. Even the wind here feels cooler than in the city.â
Millie settled into a chair, her eyes drifting to the cigarette butts on the ground, and she spoke softly.
âNo matter how cool the wind, it canât blow away a personâs troubles.â
Turning his head to regard Millie, Bruce offered an understanding smile.
âTroubles can be a good thing for a man. They often lead to greater achievements.â
His eyes, filled with affection, lingered on her a moment too long, and Millie looked away, standing up
abruptly.
âYour room is ready. Get some rest. Iâm tired and going to bed.â
As she retreated to her room, Bruce put down the orange and pulled out another cigarette, his thoughts
a tangled mess.
Meanwhile, as Millie settled into bed, her phone rang, and she answered to Marcusâ voice, soft and
comforting. âHoney.â
The endearment eased the tension in Marcus, and he smiled.
âDid you arrive safely?â
Marcusâ concern made Millie feel as though she were tasting honey.
A N G E L A âs L I B R A R Y
She smiled happily.
âYes, weâve arrived safely. Iâm going to sleep now.â
âIs the bedroom door closed?â Marcusâ question came suddenly, sharp with concern.
âWhat ?â
âClose the door,â Marcus insisted, his voice urgent. âOr someone may harm you when Iâm away.â
Millieâs laugh was light and teasing. âThereâs someone who cares for me so deeply. People say you
donât care for women. How ridiculous.â
From the other end of the line, Marcusâ hearty laughter warmed her heart. âA woman with a hundred-
million-dollar hairpin and a billion- dollar wedding gift. How could I not think of her all the time?â
Millie pursed her lips, complaining, âIt seems youâre nervous about me because of the money I have.
You donât really value me.â
Marcus chuckled and said, âProtect yourself. Donât get hurt.â
