Desires Die Hard Chapter 26
Desires Die Hard (Anya and Evan) by Beryl Occam
Chapter 26
Anyaâs phone buzzed then. She grabbed it and saw a text. It was from Jake, her boss!
He was at her apartment block downstairs. He was waiting for her to go to work together.
The v
young woman stared at the text dumbfounded. She seemed slightly dazed. Why was Jake downstairs?
âWhatâs wrong. Anya?â Concern flashed across Ellieâs eyes as she caught Anya staring at her phone. âDid something happen?â
âNo, itâs nothing.â Anya pulled herself out of her stupor and shook her head.
âWell, come over here and have breakfast. You u have to get to
to work. You canât be late.â
âSure, Ellie.â Anya collected herself, slipped her phone back into her pocket and headed to the dining table to have breakfast.
Her composure contradicted the confusion that was plaguing her. Why would her boss pick her up personally and drive her to work? That didnât seem right. In fact, it felt slightly inappropriate.
Anyaâs thoughts wandered as she ate her breakfast. She couldnât stop thinking about the fact that Jake was waiting downstairs for her. Meanwhile, Nathaniel and Eudora were playing with their toys in the living room. They had been done with their breakfast.
After some time, Anya was done with hers too. The young woman didnât want to keep Jake waiting. She hugged Nathaniel and Eudora, gave both of them a kiss and got ready to head downstairs.
The children burst into tears as as she left. She could hear them at the door, trying their best to get out of the apartment and go after her. She heard their loud cries as she walked away from the apartment. Their wailing was breaking her heart.
She wouldnât leave them behind if she didnât have to. She had to work and earn a living. Anya took a deep breath and marched towards the elevator.
She got downstairs. She couldnât hear her childrenâs weeping anymore and she felt slightly better. Anya began making her way towards the entrance of the building.
She walked up to the door and caught Jakeâs car parked outside. Her pace slowed down as she stared at the Audi Q5 outside. A man she had barely known was waiting outside her auntâs apartment for her. She didnât exactly like that feeling.
It didnât matter if that man was Jake.
He might be her boss and a decent guy, butâ¦she was a woman with two kids. She had to keep her kids a secret. She didnât want the Weltons to find outâ¦she didnât want Evan to find out about her children. Who knew what he might do? He might try to get rid of them.
It was too risky. She couldnât afford to take the risk.
She stared at Jakeâs car silently. Instead of approaching the vehicle, she pulled her phone out and sent the man a text. âIâm so sorry, Jake, I just got on the bus. Iâm on the way to the office now.â
Jakeâs reply came within seconds. âYou left? Thatâs early.â
Anya texted him back. âThatâs right. Iâm terribly sorry.â
Jake replied. âDonât worry about it.â
