Desires Die Hard Chapter 72
Desires Die Hard (Anya and Evan) by Beryl Occam
Chapter 72
Anya froze when she heard what Evan had said. Did he just tell her to stick around?
What was going on?
She couldnât possibly ask him that question though.
ìë¤.
She simply had to keep her questions to herself, step aside and find out for herself.
Anya found herself a place next to a potted plant. Evanâs eyes flickered towards her slender form. A strange look flashed across his eyes. He had no idea why he didnât like the idea of some other man getting their slimy paws on the woman.
It was utterly confounding.
He couldnât stop his attention from wandering towards the
She had set him up.
This was ridiculous.
He must be possessed by the devil.
woman whenever she was around.
âMy deepest apologies, Mr. Welton. I didnât know what Billy was doing with your staff. I promise this wonât happen again,â Jamerson apologized immediately. âPlease donât get upset.â
He had seen the way Evan had spoken to the young woman. He spoke to her as if he knew her.
They were clearly no strangers to the other.
Even if they werenât friends, the young woman was still an employee of Welton Group.
It wouldnât bode well for them if they offended her in any way. Billy was such an idiot.
Would he have continued to flirt with the young woman if they hadnât arrived in time to stop him?
Jamerson felt his hand itching at that thought. He would really like to give Billy a good hard slap on his face.
Evan planned to pay them a good price for their factory. If the sale fell through because of what Billy had done, Jamerson swore that he would make the idiot pay!
âWhat happened?â Evan ignored Jamersonâs apology and turned his eyes towards Billy. There was an edge of steel to his
voice.
Billy was terrified. He had no idea that his innocent attempts at hooking up with a designer from JK Couture would incur the wrath of the CEO of Welton Group.
How was he going to talk himself out of this mess?

âNothingâ¦â Billy stuttered nervously as he scrambled for an explanation. âI was discussing work with Ms. Macman
âIs that so?â The note of disbelief in Evanâs voice was as stark as day. He turned towards Anya and asked the young woman, who was standing quietly in a corner. âIs he speaking the truth, Ms. MacMillan?â
âIn the future, itâd be great if Mr. White could refrain from calling me into his office when weâre alone,â Anya said. She didnât want to get anyone in trouble. All she wanted to do was get out of this place as soon as possible. She had other factories to go and deliveries to make.
âHave you been harassing my female employee, Mr. White?â Evan asked. Billy felt his legs turn into jelly when he heard that. He nearly fell to his knees out of sheer terror.
âPlease apologize to Ms. MacMillan,â Evan said with a hint of steel to his voice.
Anya stared slightly. Her eyes were filled with disbelief as she stared at Evan.
Was he speaking up for her?
That seemed impossible.
He hated her, didnât he?
Anya felt as if she were dreaming.
There was no way Billy was going to defy what was clearly an order from Evan. He nearly tripped as he hurried towards Anya. Apologies fell from his lips profusely. âIâm so sorry, Ms. MacMillan. Iâm so terribly sorry. This will not happen again. Iâll never call you into my office when weâre alone again.â
âPlease accept my apology, Ms. MacMillan.â The man was shaking with terror.
He had allowed lust to override his reason for a moment. He hadnât meant any harm. He had only wanted to tease the
young woman.
Billy ha
hadnât expected to draw the wrath of so many people. He honestly regretted his actions.
âPlease make sure this never happens again. Iâll be expecting the new designs to be ready by next Monday, Mr. White,â Anya said coolly
Billy nodded his head profusely.
âMr. Welton, apologies have been made. Letâs continue the tour of the factory, shall we?â Jamerson asked with a note of uncertainty in his voice. He didnât want the incident to affect the sale of the factory.
âLetâs skip the tour. Iâll be happy to offer you a good price for the factory if youâre willing to consider the sale, Mr.
Jamerson.â
âThank you, Mr. Welton.â
They had discussed everything that had needed to be discussed for the deal. Evan and Hayden headed out of the office.

Anya followed them out and left the office as well.
The man had spoken up for her just now. She had to thank him. Anya slowly made her way towards Evan. âMr. Welton, thank you for speaking up for me just now.â
Evan stopped in his tracks. The tone of his voice was mild. âMs. MacMillan, do you honestly have no sense of self- preservation? Or perhaps.
â¦perhaps she had reserved her wits for setting him up. But Evan didnât think it necessary to say that out loud.
He stopped himself in the nick of time.
Nevertheless, Anya knew what he wanted to say. She knew it. He had never cared. In fact, he had just insinuated that she was a loose woman. He was convinced that she had set him up.
âThanks anyway,â Anya said. She shoved the strange and inexplicable feeling that she had felt earlier, tightened her fingers. around her stack of drafts and pivoted on her heel. The next moment, she was walking out of the factory.
