My Bestfriend's Brother Shouldn't Know How I Taste

Bailey's pov

The doctor kept my mom updated and said I was okay and they have ensured that the wound will

not be infected and cause any future issues. However, they wanted to keep me here for another

hour for observation.

As he left to tend to the other patients, Dad arrived a few minutes later with Grandma Ryn and

Grandpa Ace in tow.

I internally winced.

Dad rushed over to my side, his face etched with concern as he took my hand in his, squeezing.

"Bailey, are you okay?" he asked, his voice filled with worry as his eyes snap to my my injured foot.

He glared at it.

I nodded. "I'm okay dad, it looks worse than it actually is."

As we all engaged in a conversation, Grandma Ryn decided to tense the atmosphere with her next

question directed at Kaleb who still had not shifted away from my side.

"Young man. Can you give us a list of all the girls who could potentially be a threat to my

granddaughter's life?"

I stiffened, staring at her awkwardly while Kaleb looks flushed. "Are you talking about my exes? I've

never had an ex. Bailey is my first girlfriend."

Grandma Ryn's eyes narrowed. "Are there not girls who admire you and you've been with in the

past?"

Kaleb's flushed reddened and he awkwardly cleared his throat, the blush reaching all to the tips of

his ears. "Uhm, I may need a sheet of paper and a pen."

Grandma Ryn raised a brow, amusement flashing in her eyes and I clenched my eyes closed tightly.

This is embarrassing.

"Oh? Is this list going to be long?" She questioned.

Kaleb let out an embarrassed cough. "I am afraid it will ma'am."

Exactly an hour later I was discharged. Kaleb asked my parents if he could be allowed to spend the

rest of the day with me seeing as I won't be returning to the school but they voiced out that he

should return to the school and come to check up on me afterward.

I knew he was displeased about it but they were right. He didn't have to miss more school time

because of me. I'd rather him go to school.

He helped me in my dad's car and bent over to give me a soft kiss before leaning toward my ear

and whispering how much he loved me and how he'd try his best to protect me better.

I knew he was taking it hard with what happened and reached out to grasp his hand, squeezing it

before he left. "I love you, Kaleb. Nothing will change that." I promised him and pulled him for

another kiss before Dad said we should get home so I could take a good needed nap.

As we zoomed away, I turn to look back at Kaleb who had his hands in his pockets and a small sad

frown on his face. I bit my lip, sighing as I turned back around, leaning my head on the window.

I can't help but give in to my thoughts, wondering if there will be more attacks on me. Those glass

shards in the field could be a coincidence however my gut told me it wasn't.

As I turn to look once more at Kaleb's figure which got smaller the further away we are, my heart

squeezes.

What if Kaleb leaves me thinking he will be saving me from future attacks? What if I....lose him?

I swallowed, my eyes stinging and I quickly rip my eyes away, clenching my eyes tightly as I let out

a shaky breath. The thought of losing him pushed in fear that gnawed on my insides.

I can't lose him because of this.

They will find out who and everything will go back to normal.

Once we got home, Dad helped me out of the car and carried me into the house, Mom following

quickly behind.

"Where do you want to sleep baby? In your room or the couch?" Mom asked me.

"My room," I respond.

She nod and walked upstairs, dad steps behind her as he held me protectively. Once we were in my

room, Mom made work to ride the bed and make it more comfortable.

Dad then set me on the bed gently and added a pillow under my injured foot. "Hope this helps to

make it feel more comfortable. If you need anything your mom and I will be downstairs."

My brows furrowed. "Aren't you going back to work?"

Dad gave me a smile. "Took the rest of the day off to take care of you."

—

I had fallen asleep and got stirred awake when I felt my bed dip. I twisted and yawned, peeling my

eyes open when I felt someone lie down beside me.

The first thing I notice is his jeans and my eyes travel up to see that he has changed his shirt into

another one. I throw my arm around his midsection and push closer to him, my head lying on his

tone stomach.

"You came," I whispered as he ran his fingers through my hair.

"I promised I'd come didn't I?" Kaleb whispered lovingly.

I sighed. With him here I feel more comforted.

My brows pinched. "Is it after school already?"

He nods, grinning. "Kind of left Mira. But Ryan will bring her here. I just needed to be with you soon

and you were not picking up your phone neither did you text me back."

I smiled sheepishly. "I've been sleeping for hours."

He looked at me worriedly and I did my best to ease him. "I promise I'm fine. Just tired. I think it's

those painkillers."

He looks down at my foot and hand, frowning. He reaches for my hand and grasps it lightly and

places it on his stomach.

"I hate this," he whispered, his voice croaky. " I hate that this has happened to you. Bailey..." he

rubbed his thumb over the back of my hand, his brows pinched in thought.

My heart skipped a beat. That look. The way he spoke. That tinge of sadness in tone....

My heart squeezed and my throat began to close up. I turn to face him fully, rising a little. "You're

not breaking up with me, are you?"
