Mafia Kings: Adriano: Chapter 37
Mafia Kings: Adriano: Dark Mafia Romance Series #2
It didnât get any better when we left the house.
I took a shower and dressed in a skirt and black lace top Iâd gotten from a thrift store. I figured we would be doing a lot of walking, so I went with a pair of sandals.
I would have liked to have put on some makeup, but Adriano was hovering over me from the moment I got dressed.
âCâmon, letâs go, letâs go,â he said impatiently.
Like I was one of his little minions.
Asshole.
He was wearing his suit from last night. It was rumpled all to hell⦠but he still looked hot.
I hated him for that.
We were already in the car and driving when he asked, âDid you call your father again?â
âI was kind of busy for the last hour,â I snapped.
âWell do it now,â he snarled.
I cursed him silently and pulled out my phone. It was dead.
âI need to charge it.â
He opened up the center console, fished around, and handed me a cord. I plugged it into a port in the dash and heard the ding as it started charging.
I started up my phone after a few seconds.
My heart immediately soared when I saw the little red numbers on my text and phone apps:
17 texts and 5 calls.
âOh my god!â I said joyfully.
âWhat?â he asked.
I ignored him and opened up my texts â
And immediately my heart sank when I saw that none of them were from my father.
They were all from my roommate Emma.
â¦who I was supposed to help with her fashion project today.
I glanced at the time: 1:22.
I was supposed to have been there three hours ago.
âOh shit,â I whispered.
âWhat?!â Adriano snapped.
I still ignored him and opened up my phone app, hoping that maybe one had been a call from my father â
But no. They were all from my roommate.
Shit, shit, SHIT â
I hit my roommateâs name on the contact list and lifted the phone to my ear.
âDid you dad call?!â Adriano shouted angrily.
âNo!â I snapped at him.
âThen who are you fucking calling?!â
âI forgot I was supposed to help my roommate do something this morning!â
âYou have a roommate?!â
âYeah, I â â
âBianca, are you okay?!â Emma said into my ear.
Oh noâ¦
She sounded sick to death with worry.
Iâd been prepared for her to chew me out, and she was only worried about my safety.
âYeah, Iâm okay,â I said.
âThank God â when you didnât come home last night and you didnât answer my calls, I thought you might be hurt! What happened?!â
I hesitated.
I really didnât want to say, Oh, I met this really hot asshole and had mind-blowing sex.
Partially because it would have made me sound like a bitch who blew off her friendâ¦
But also because the hot asshole was sitting right next to me, and I didnât want to give him the satisfaction.
So I went with the version of the story that would get me more sympathy.
âSomething happened with my dad. Iâm sorry I didnât call â â
âIs he okay?!â
Emma had heard all about my fatherâs problems with gambling.
She didnât know the ugly details, but she knew enough: that he was always getting into debt with bad people and making me and my mother miserable.
âI⦠I think so â â
Suddenly Adriano butted in. âYou have to tell her to get out of there now.â
I looked at him. âWhat?â
ââ¦whoâs that?â Emma asked.
Adrianoâs expression was a mixture of anger and fear. âTell her to leave the apartment NOW.â
âWhy?!â
âBiancaaaaa,â Emma said in a slightly pissed voice, âwhy does it sound like youâre with a guy?â
Adrianoâs eyes bored a hole into me. âYou left your ID at the modeling agency, right? Which means they know where you live.â
Ice water rushed into my guts.
âN-no â â
âThey know where your parents live, too. Once they find Sergio, theyâre gonna send someone to your apartment.â
Oh fuckâ¦
âEmma,â I said, my voice frantic, âyou have to get out of there. LEAVE. NOW.â
ââ¦what?â
âMy dad disappeared and the mafiaâs after him and they came after my mom last night and theyâre coming after me,â I babbled. âSo theyâre coming to the apartment. YOU HAVE TO GET OUT NOW.â
There was silence on the other end. Then â
âBianca, youâre SCARING me.â
âPlease, Emma, Iâm so sorry I dragged you into this, but you HAVE TO GO NOW â please!â
âOkay, okay â â
âTell her to grab her keys and walk out NOW,â Adriano ordered. âNot in two minutes âNOW.â
âEmma â â
âI heard him â who is he?!â
âPut her on speakerphone,â Adriano ordered.
I did.
âLook, there are killers coming to your apartment as we speak,â he said. âGet your keys and leave and donât come back until you hear from Bianca, okay?â
âO-okayâ¦â
âGET OUT â NOW!â Adriano shouted.
âIâm going, Iâm going,â she said in a terrified voice.
I could hear a door close over the phone.
âGood,â Adriano said. âNow go someplace they canât find out â not your parentsâ place, not your boyfriendâs, not any other friendsâ â â
âI donât have a boyfriend, and my parents are in Naples.â
âGood â donât go there. Go to a hotel someplace youâve never been before.â
Emma gave an incredulous laugh. âUhhh, I do NOT have the money for that.â
âDo you and Bianca use the same cash app? Something like Wise or Revolut?â
âYeah, she pays me her half of the rent that way, but â â
âGood. Bianca will send you the money.â
Now I was the one looking at Adriano like he was an alien.
Did this guy not know how poor I was?
âI donât â â
He shushed me, which pissed me off, and went back to talking to Emma. âAre you out of the building?â
âYes, but â â
âJust go and hang out in a café until the money comes through, alright?â
âO-okayâ¦â she stuttered, frightened.
âAnd STAY there. Definitely donât go back to the apartment.â
âWhat about school?â
âFuck school,â Adriano snapped. âThis is life and death, you understand?â
âO-okayâ¦â
âWe gotta go.â
âIâll call you, Emma,â I promised.
âPlease be safe, Bianca!â
âI will. You too,â I said, then hung up.
I looked over at Adriano. âDid you really need to scare the shit out of her like that?â
âWould you rather her get shot in the head?â he snarled.
âNo, but â â
âThose guys who shot up the hotel last night? Theyâre the ones looking for you right now.â
I felt all the blood drain out of my face. âThen shouldnât we be getting the hell out of Florence?â
âNo. We have to find your father.â
âYeah â but whatâs going to stop them from hurting us?â
Adriano got a savage look on his face that chilled me to the boneâ¦
â¦and yet somehow made me feel safer.
âMe,â he said coldly. âIâm going to stop them from hurting you.â
I swallowed hard. Then I thought of Emma going to a hotel â
âI donât have any money to send her,â I said.
He pulled over to the side of the road and opened his phone. âWhat app do you use with her?â
âWise.â It was basically the European version of Venmo.
âWhatâs your name on the app?â
I gave it to him.
He tapped the screen a couple of times, and I got a notification ping.
I opened Wise and my eyes bugged out.
You have 5000 euros from A. Rosolini.
It was the equivalent of $5000 US.
âWhat the fuck?!â I exclaimed.
âWhat, thatâs not enough?â he asked, confused.
âNo, itâs â I canât accept this!â
âItâs not for you, itâs for your roommate. Send it to her.â
âShe doesnât have to stay at the Four Seasons!â
âShe can stay wherever the fuck she wants just as long as she stays out of your apartment. Send it.â
âBut â â
âDo you want her to end up dead?â
âNo â â
âThis is the price to keep her safe. So send her the goddamn money.â
I shook my head in bewilderment, then sent the full 5000 to Emma.
About 15 seconds later, a text message came in from her.
WTF?????!!!!!!
I know, I texted back. Just be careful.
B, wtf is going on????!!!!
Tell you later. I promise.
Adriano pulled the car up to a small café next to a string of shops.
âLetâs go,â he said.
Gotta go, I texted, and unplugged my phone.
