Mafia Kings: Adriano: Chapter 72
Mafia Kings: Adriano: Dark Mafia Romance Series #2
I was expecting to get a dress for that evening.
What I didnât expect was where I got it from.
âWhoâs your favorite designer?â he asked, apropos of nothing, as we were getting close to Florence. âOscar de la Renta?â
âHuh?â
âYou mentioned him the other night.â
âOh, right â The Devil Wears Prada. Heâs incredible, but I wouldnât say heâs my favorite.â
âWhoâs your favorite, then?â
âWhat â now, or all-time?â
âTheyâre different?â
âYeah. I mean, Alexander McQueen is amazing â but I like him more for the idea of what he did than how his clothes look, if that makes any sense. His dresses really were art you could wear.
âI love Givenchy for how he dressed Audrey Hepburn. Sheâs one of THE great style icons of all time.
âI love Vivienne Westwood for her punk sensibility. I love Tom Fordâs work at Gucci â â
âYou seem to love everybody,â Adriano said drily, âso letâs narrow it down. If you had to choose one dress from one designer, who would it be?â
âMmmm⦠Valentino, I think.â
âNOT my brother,â Adriano said with one raised eyebrow.
âNo,â I laughed, âdefinitely not him. Valentino Garavani. He did amazing things with the color red, and thatâs my favorite color.â
âValentino it is, then,â he said as he plugged the name into the carâs dashboard navigation.
I stared at him. âAdriano â weâre not going to buy a Valentino dress.â
âYes, we are.â
âThatâs crazy â itâs too expensive!â
âNumber one, no, itâs not. And number two, let me worry about that.â
âNo â â
He turned to look at me and spoke in that voice he used when he absolutely would not tolerate dissent:
âYES.â
Iâd only heard him use it with his brothers before.
Hearing him use it on meâ¦
About buying me a dress from my favorite designerâ¦
It kind of turned me on.
ââ¦okay, then,â I said with a smile.
âOkay, then,â he said, and suppressed a smile of his own.
