Chapter 1099
The Substitute Wife: My Poor Husband Is A Billionaire
Chapter 1099 The Turner Group Encountered A Crisis
On the second floor of the Turner familyâs house, Catherine leaned against the window. She held a
tissue between trembling fingers. When the ambulance pulled away, she closed the gap in the curtains
and tried to calm herself.
Catherine knew Lukeâs methods better than anyone. He was a ruthless man. That was one of the
reasons why many companies didnât dare to offend the Turners.
She heard her husbandâs footsteps echo along the corridor. Catherine raised her head as Luke opened
the door.

Luke was annoyed by his wifeâs tearful face. âDonât show your kindness to someone who doesnât
deserve it. We would be better to pity ourselves.â Lukeâs eyes were cold. He couldnât understand
Catherineâs continued devotion.
âI didnât try to stop you. Now I canât even cry for a little while?â Catherineâs face was pale. The tears she
shed were silent but real. She had loved Vivian and couldnât bear to see her tortured to lunacy by Luke.
But she hadnât attempted to stop him. Luke knew Catherine had accepted his decision. She had
stepped aside and didnât do anything to stop him exacting his revenge. His attitude softened as he
gazed into her red-rimmed eyes, wet with tears. He walked across the room and comforted her gently.
âVivian is a liar. She never really treated you like a mother. Why should you waste your tears on her?
When we lost Charis, our sadness made us vulnerable. Thatâs why the two of us fell into her trap.â
âI know what you mean,â Catherine said, wiping her tears. When she thought about everything, she
knew she had been too impulsive in many things. For one, she should never have forced her way into
the interrogation room at the Larson Group without permission.
Catherine felt uneasy. âWhat did Brandon say? Will he continue to harass our family?â
Dealings between the Turner family and the Larson Group had been difficult before. After the problems
with Vivian, their relationship would only get worse.
âDonât worry. Iâve discussed it with Brandon. It wonât affect our family.â Lukeâs smile inspired confidence.
âThatâs good. Although our family has a strong foundation, the Larson Group is a rising star. Brandon is
thoughtful and decisive. Even if we must fight him, I doubt we can last long.â Catherine sighed with
relief. Luke was no longer the high spirited and ambitious young man he once was. They both only
wanted to enjoy their old age.
Seeing that she seemed to have calmed down, Luke offered a suggestion, âIf you still want an adopted
daughter, we should pick a kind and sensible girl. Of course, we would need to confirm that she has a
kind heart and will never harm the Turner family.â *
Vivian would never return, and Luke would never allow her back into their lives.
Catherine sat on the bed and shook her head. She felt absolutely exhausted. Her bones ached from
the emotional strain. âIâm afraid to try again. People change. If we brought back another girl like Vivian,
I couldnât bear it.â
What had happened felt like a nightmare. âItâs good that you can move on.â Luke squeezed her hand.
The phone in his pocket rang, and his eyes lit up.
âWho is it? Why are you so happy?â Catherine said.
trying to distract herself from her grief. âI asked my secretary to take back the shares we gave to Vivian.
Heâs probably calling to report the result.â Luke picked up the phone and asked, âHow is it going?â
âMr. Turner, its bad news, Iâm afraid. You canât reclaim the shares you gave to Vivian.â The secretary
sounded anxious.
Luke fell onto the bed. His voice trembled when he asked, What do you mean? Why canât I get back
the shares?â
âBecause Vivian transferred her shares to a third party. That third party has already collected a lot of
shares in the Turner Group. Their stake in the company is almost as large as yours and Mrs. Turnerâs.â
The secretaryâs voice grew quiet. âMr. Turner, can you come to the company and deal with it quickly?
Iâm afraid the company might have a change of ownership.â
Luke lowered his arm and sighed helplessly. âI was too careless. 1 didnât expect that Vivian would leave
another disaster for us.â
âWho took her shares and purchased more of them from other shareholders?â Catherineâs mind was in
chaos. She saw that Luke looked afraid, and her anxiety spiked. She couldnât calm down at all.
The Turner Group was the most important thing in the world to Luke. Who would be vicious enough to
take advantage of their recent tragedy and purchase the shares?
âDonât worry. Iâll go to the company and see how best to deal with it.â Lukeâs head felt as though it might
overheat. Pain darted between his eyes. When he stood up, he felt dizzy. The next second, he just
passed out.
