Chapter 1177
The Substitute Wife: My Poor Husband Is A Billionaire
Chapter 1177 Such A Good Daughter-in- law
Kailee was brimming with satisfaction over what Garrettâs parents had said. As the Harding family
expressed their disapproval of Laney, she knew her plan was falling into place with ease.
Laney had managed to infiltrate the Harding family by virtue of her pregnancy. But without Mr. and Mrs.
Hardingâs acceptance, she could be easily ousted by Kailee.
Furthermore, Garrett was notorious for his playboy antics. Surely, he wouldnât be content with a woman
of such ordinary origins?
The more Kailee contemplated, the more smug and self-assured she became. She could practically
taste the victory, as if she could cast Laney aside and ensconce herself in the Harding family in mere
moments.
âMrs. Harding, I must accept my share of the blame as well. Had I been more vigilant, none of this
would have transpired.â
With practiced restraint, Kailee hid her glee and adopted a contrite expression. âThe hospital where
Laney resides is owned by my family. We shall ensure she receives the utmost care and delivers a
healthy child.â
Vera found herself increasingly drawn to Kailee. With a tender pat on Kaileeâs hand, she said warmly,
âThank you. Please do visit more frequently. Garrett is constantly occupied with work, and Laney and I
have little in common. Itâs truly a delight to converse with you.â
Kailee beamed, âIâm thrilled you feel that way. Mrs. Harding, Iâve heard that Prada has released a
stunning new necklace that would be perfect for you. Shall we go take a look?â Vera also wanted to go
shopping. When she heard this, she nodded and said, âOkay, letâs go and have a look.â
At the boutique, Vera was captivated by the pearl necklace. Just as she prepared to pay, Kailee had
already instructed the saleswoman to wrap it and completed the transaction. âYou donât have to pay for
this,â Vera said, with a hint of commendation in her voice though. Kailee gently smiled. âI couldnât
possibly let an elder pay the bill.â
The saleswoman, handing the packaged jewelry to Vera, couldnât help but compliment her, âMy lady,
you are fortunate to have such a dutiful daughter-in-law.â
Kailee blushed and demurred, I am not her daughter-in-law.â
âReally?â The saleswoman was surprised. âI apologize. You seemed so devoted I assumed you were
this ladyâs daughter-in-law.â Vera couldnât help but ponder the saleswomanâs words.
If only Garrett had chosen Kailee, a woman of equal social standing, impeccable character, and
formidable ability. She would have made a remarkable wife and brought invaluable assets to the
Harding Group.
Yet, instead, Garrett had wed an orphan, devoid of pedigree and education, who knew nothing of
preserving her husbandâs dignity. She was anything but a good wife!
Veraâs dissatisfaction with Laney only intensified, while her fondness for Kailee grew. Back at the
Harding residence, sensing the opportune moment, Kailee broached another matter, âThereâs
something else I need your assistance with, Mrs. Harding. Garrett was quite upset with me following his
altercation with Laney yesterday. Iâd like to find a chance to apologize.â
Impressed by Kaileeâs thoughtfulness, Vera assured her, âNot a problem. Iâll handle it.â Vera
immediately called Garrett, insisting he return home at once.
The phone was quickly connected. Vera ordered, âGarrett, come back home now. I have something to
tell you face to face.â Garrett had no choice but to agree.
After hanging up the phone, Vera patted on Kaileeâs hand and said, âDonât worry. Just tell Garrett what
you want to say. He will understand that itâs not your fault.â An hour later, Garrett arrived, his eyes icy
upon spotting Kailee.
âWhy is she here?â Dissatisfied with his cold demeanor, Vera retorted, âKailee came specifically to
apologize for yesterdayâs incident at the reunion.â
Feigning confusion, Kailee stood and said, âIâm sorry, Garrett. I didnât look after Laney properly. I hope
you can find it in your heart to forgive me.â
âSince Kailee has apologized, letâs put this matter to rest,â Vera interjected.
Witnessing Kaileeâs facade of kindness and Veraâs staunch defense, Garrettâs expression darkened. He
scoffed, then spun on his heel and stormed out without uttering another word.
