Chapter 1256
The Substitute Wife: My Poor Husband Is A Billionaire
Carly patted the old womanâs hand to comfort her.
âGrandma, itâs okay. Donât be afraid.â
The old woman moved closer to Carly, feeling uncomfortable. âMiss White, whatâs going on here?â
Carly looked at Janet with a frown.
âI thought your studio was located in a nice place. Why are there so many reporters all of a sudden?â
The main reason Carly had chosen Janet as their designer was that her studio was located in a quiet
place, and her grandmother would not feel uncomfortable.
Her grandmother had moved from the countryside and had not adapted herself to the loud and busy
city life yet.
Carly had to persuade her grandmother for a long time before she finally agreed to let Carly order a
custom-designed birthday dress for her.
Carly was shocked to see such a scene just when they were arriving at the studio.
Janet was helpless and unprepared to handle the predicament that Clyde put her in because he
brought his reporter friends over unannounced.
If she had known earlier, she would have shut the door on Clydeâs face.
As soon as the reporters saw the clients, they immediately surrounded them with their microphones
and cameras.
âWhat kind of style and design are you looking for?â
âAre you here to let Miss White design your clothes? How much are you offering her? Do you know, the
price of her last order was tens of thousands of dollars?â
âWhat?â
The old woman gasped in shock when she heard the price.
She hurriedly signaled to Carly and said, âSweetie, | am glad with your kind intention, but donât spend
so much money on me! I can wear something else. I donât need such expensive clothes.â
At that moment, Lexi appeared before them with two cups of coffee.
âLadies, have some coffee first. We can go inside and discuss the design.â
The old woman was already intimidated because of the price the reporters mentioned, so she did not
even dare to take the coffee.
Shaking her head, she refused, âIsnât this coffee very expensive? We are not thirsty. We donât need it,
thanks.â
Carly felt bad when she saw her grandmother scared.
Holding her grandmotherâs hand, she comforted gently, âItâs okay, Grandma. If you donât want to be
here, we can leave.â
She then turned around and left with the old woman without even looking at Janet.
âMiss Reed, it was an accident,â
Janet tried to explain in a hurry while stopping Carly from leaving.
Carly glanced at her with disappointment and said in a low voice, âMiss White, I only brought my
grandma here because I trusted you. I never thought you would disrespect our agreement.â
Janet didnât know how to explain and kept pleading, âMiss Reed, itâs not intentional. I did not do this.â
However, Carly only felt that she was making excuses and sneered, âThereâs no need for you to say all
that. I thought you were different from those arrogant designers, but I did not think that I could have the
wrong idea about you.â
She held her grandmotherâs hand and left without looking back.
As Janet watched Carly and her grandmotherâs receding figures, she felt aggrieved and angry.
She felt aggrieved because she was misunderstood, and she was angry at Clyde for deciding things on
his own without consulting her.
The reporters didnât notice Janetâs expression darken.
They kept clicking photos of Carly and her grandmother while flattering Janet.
âMiss White, you are wise to have your own standards for choosing clients. Not everyone deserves
your efforts.â
âYes, that old woman looked so poor. She definitely couldnât have been able to afford the commission.
Fortunately, Miss White was wise enough not to accept her order.â
âMiss White, the clothes you designed must be elegant and refined, just like the ones designed by
Draco Wesley. Poor people like them are not qualified to wear such outfits.â
Those mean words felt like needles piercing Janetâs heart.
Hannah, the person Janet considered her own grandmother, was as frugal and simple as Carlyâs
grandmother. When she brought Hannah to the big city, Hannah had also been very cautious, fearing
that she might be too troublesome for Janet. Hence, Janet was able to completely understand Carlyâs
anger and was disgusted by the reportersâ arrogance.
