Chapter 1376 A Fundamental Trait Of Professional Assistants
The Substitute Wife: My Poor Husband Is A Billionaire
âIâm not inquiring about that,â Seanâs gaze darted towards the office as he murmured. âWhat has put
Mrs. Larson off? Has someone upset her?â
âI get your drift now,â Lexi responded, her confusion fading away.
She brushed her fingers through her hair and said hesitantly, âIt might be best if Mr. Larson queries my
boss directly. As her assistant, | canât just leak information about her.â
Sean noticed Lexiâs barely contained annoyance and her burning desire to retort. It dawned on him.
Outraged, he spat, âIs there truly someone bold enough to upset Mrs. Larson like this? Itâs like poking
the bear!â
Stroking his chin in contemplation, he sighed. âMr. Larson wonât let this go unpunished.â
Lexi blinked quickly, her lips miming a zipped lock, signifying her silence.
Sean felt a throb in his temples at her gesture. âDonât wall me off. Mr. Larson is doing this for Mrs.
Larsonâs benefit.â
More importantly, if he couldnât get to the bottom of Mrs. Larsonâs discontent,
Mr. Larson would inevitably slash his wages.
Lexi hid her mouth and mumbled, âEven if Mr. Larson asked me directly, my lips would be sealed.â
âWhy though?â Sean queried, perplexed.
Lexi stood up straight, thumped her chest, and asserted, âMy duty as an assistant is to maintain
secrecy on matters my boss wishes to keep under wraps. Thatâs a fundamental trait of a professional
assistant.â
âYouâre right,â Sean concurred with Lexiâs assertion.
Believing sheâd staved off further questions, Lexi started to relax, but Seanâs shift in tone took her by
surprise. âHoweverâ¦â
Lexiâs heartbeat accelerated, and she gave Sean a wary look, questioning, âHowever, what?â Sean
shrugged, sighing. âOrdinarily, assistants keep things confidential. But what about the dynamic between
your boss and Mr. Larson?â Lexi, a relative newcomer compared to Sean, was momentarily thrown off
by his question and blurted, âTheyâre a couple?â
Sean clicked his fingers. âPrecisely! Since theyâre together, shouldnât there be transparency? And with
Mrs. Larsonâs current heightened emotions, shouldnât we be extra vigilant about her welfare?â
Dumbfounded, Lexi conceded, âYour argument seems⦠solid.â
A smirk of tnumph danced on Seanâs lips. He clapped Lexiâs shoulder, his tone grave. âAnd as Mrs.
Larsonâs right-hand woman, can you stand by while sheâs being hurt?â
Lexi descended into introspection, grappling with her feelings.
Slowly, she was swaying towards Seanâs perspective.
Despite being unaware of the full picture, Lexi had observed Janetâs low spints. Todayâs events had
only intensified her gloominess.
If she shared what had transpired with Mr. Larson, he might be able to restore Janetâs happiness. But if
she spilled to Sean, sheâd fail as an assistant.
She had promised Janet that as her assistant, sheâd put her interests above all else. A premature
disclosure could let Janet down. Seeing Lexiâs struggle, Sean added, âLexi, relax. We wonât let Mrs.
Larson know you shared anything. Weâre only looking out for her, nght?â Just as Lexi was nearing a
breakdown, she retreated and offered an awkward smile. âI need a restroom break. Iâll consider what to
do when I return!â
âWait!â Before Sean could protest, he watched Lexi dart into the restroom.
