Chapter 77
BLAIRE
I lost track of time and couldn't remember what time I dozed off. I was
having a hard time sleeping because of what happened. I keep on
thinking about it. I stayed with Blaze the whole night, and I keep
glancing at the adjacent door, even with a slight sound, thinking
Sebastian will walk right at the door in any minute. However, it didn't
happen. The room right across ours remained awfully quiet.
I'm still not ready to face Sebastian right after what happened last night.
I was afraid that seeing how regretful he was would make me change
my mind about leaving. I'm well aware that he was trying. He tried to
make up for the mistakes that he had made in the past. But he can't
blame me if I was having a hard time welcoming him into our lives after
everything that he did.
I was pulled out of my reverie when I heard my sonâs voice. âMommy,â
he uttered.
âYes, honey? Do you need anything?â
âThe man who owns the house...â he started.
I held my breath, waiting for what he was about to say. I'm afraid Blaze
has already caught up with the situation. He may be young, but he is
smart and well aware of his surroundings.
"Is he
my dad?â he asked, completing his sentence.
âSweetheart...â My voice cracked. I don't know what to say. I donât want
to lie to my son, but what will I tell him when I have already decided to
go on leave?
âHe came here last night. You were sleeping,â he added, which caught
me by surprise.
âHe did?" I replied, forcing a smile on my face.
âHe was saying sorry, mommy. He said he loved me so much. He said
he wanted to be with me, but he did a lot of awful things. That's why it's
impossible for him to stay. He was crying, but I told him to be quiet
because you're sleeping. What did he do, mommy?â he asked
innocently. I was surprised that he managed to remember all the things
Sebastian said. He tried his best to remember everything Sebastian
told him.
âDid he introduce himself as your father?â I asked him.
âNope, he didn't. It was just a guess,â he replied innocently, shrugging
his shoulders as if it weren't a big deal. âBut it's a good thing if he is my
daddy. I always wanted to have a daddy,â he added as the light on his
face slowly faded.

I started sobbing upon hearing that. I thought what I was doing was
best for him. I never even considered that Blaze may want to have his
dad in his life. Did I make a mistake? Am I being selfish by choosing to
protect myself from the man who caused me pain?
âDo you want to be with your dad?â I asked him, preparing myself for
whatever his answer would be.
âI'm okay with anything, mommy. As long as I'm with you, I'm okay,â he
answered.
At that moment, I finally broke down. I can't believe I was about to steal
my sonâs chance to grow up with his father just because I couldn't
stand to be with him. Maybe I should reconsider my decision for the
sake of Blaze.
âWould you like to stay here for a while?â I asked him. And right there
and there, I saw the light flash in his eyes.
âCan we, mommy?â I can hear excitement in his voice.
I felt guilty knowing that my son was more mature and considerate than
I was. Despite him wanting to know his father, he didn't insist on it.
Instead, he allowed me to make a decision and accepted it
wholeheartedly.
It made me realize that there are times when we can learn a few things
from an innocent child's perspective.
I forced a smile on my face. âWe can if you want to,â I said.
âYes, mommy!â He almost leapt out of bed in excitement as he tried to
imprison me in a tight hug. âThank you, mommy!â he said.
We were in that position when I heard a soft knock coming from the
door. âGood morning,â Maximus said. âAm I interrupting something?â he
asked, smiling.
âNo, you're not. Come on in, doc,â I replied.
âI'm just going to do my daily morning routine quickly, and then I'll be
out of your hair in no time,â he said as soon as he started checking up
on Blaze.
As I watched Blaze get checked by Max, I decided to go out and look at
Sebastian. We need to have that talk once again, but this time I should
prioritize my son over my feelings.
If I were to guess it correctly, Sebastian would probably have his
morning coffee in the dining room during this time. I went straight to the
dining area, only to find it empty. Though there's already food on the
table, Sebastian was nowhere to be found.
Candince came out of the kitchen holding a bag of freshly cut fruits.
"Candice, is

Sebastian still in his room?â I asked her.
Pp
"You didnât know?" she asked with a confused look on her face.
âWhat do you mean?â

âSir Sebastian already left earlier, around three in the morning, I
guess?â she explained.
âOh, what time will he be back?"
She frowned in confusion, as if there's something wrong with my
question. âI don't think he's ever coming back, Blaire,â Candice
answered.
I chuckled nervously. âWhat do you mean heâs not coming back? That's
absurb. This is his house.â
âAhmm... I donât know what's going on, Blaire. Maybe you should go
find him and talk to him,â she suggested.
âThat's a good idea. Thanks, Candice!â I replied.
âWait! Aren't you going to eat first? Sir Sebastian specifically told us to
prepare your breakfast,â she said.
âI donât think I can. I need to talk to Sebastian as soon as possible. I'll
probably just grab some sandwiches along the way,â I said. âAnd can I
ask you a favor, please?â
"Of course! What is it?"
âCould you look after Blaze while I'm gone? Don't let anyone come
near him, okay? You're aware of what happened last night, right? I'm
afraid of what Catherine might do if she finds out about Blaze,â I said.
âDonât worry, I'll look after him,â she replied.
âThank you, Candice. I'll be back as soon as I can.â
âNo worries, Blaire. I got you,â she assured me.
I smiled at her gesture. I'm glad that even after all these years have
passed, there's still a few good people around us.
As I was on my way to the gate, I saw Clifford coming through the gate.
He was riding the black sedan car he used to drive with Sebastian. My
heart raced, thinking Sebastian was inside.
But I was a little disappointed when it was only Clifford who came out of
the car.

âOh, thank Go d you're here,â I said. âDo you have any idea where
Sebastian might be?â I added.
âHeâs currently staying at his office, Miss Blaire. He asked me to give
this to you. He also wanted to apologize that he didnât have the courage
to give it to you personally,â he said as he handed me an envelope.
âWhat's this?" I asked as I slowly checked the envelope he just gave
me.
âThat's the temporary restraining order that Mr. Foster filed against
Miss Catherine so she wouldn't be able to get close to you and your
son like she did last night,â he explained. âAnd here...â he said, and he
handed me another folder. âThis is the title of this house. It has always
been under your name, so Mr. Foster thinks that you should have it. He
also said that you can do whatever you want with the house, whether
you stay in it or sell it; it's totally up to you,â Clifford explained as I tried
to read the documents.
âWhy is he doing this?" I asked, frowning.
âI can't answer for him, Miss Blaire. But I believe heâs honoring your
request. He decided to give you and Blaze the freedom that you
wanted,â he said. âHe also wanted me to give you this,â he said,
handing another paper that seemed endless.
âAnd this one is for?â My confusion grows every minute.
âThat's a copy of his last will and testament,â he answered.
My eyes widen in shock. I'm sure Sebastian wasn't the type of man
who's giving up his life because of this, isn't he? Clifford probably saw
right through me.
âDonât worry, Miss Blaire. It isn't what you're thinking,â he chuckled. âI
can assure you, Mr. Foster is absolutely fine.â
I let out the breath that I hadn't noticed I'd been holding the whole time.
âHe just wanted to give it to you just in case something happened to
him. Despite the choices that you and Mr. Foster have made, he still
wanted to assure Blaze that he would get everything that was rightfully
his. In that will, it is stated that Blaze will be the sole heir of Foster
Enterprise if anything happens to him.â
âHe did that?â What Clifford said hasn't been fully sinking into my
system.
âYes, Miss Blaire. And if ever you have any questions regarding those
documents, here's a lawyer you can discuss them with.â He reached for
his pocket and picked out a calling card before giving it to me. âIs there
anything I can do for you?â he asked after I accepted the card.

âYes. Could you bring me to Sebastian? I have something to discuss
with him,â I said.
He looked surprised upon hearing that, but he quickly recovered. âOf
course, Miss Blaire,â he replied before opening the door for me.

I quickly got into the back seat, feeling the tension as we drove quietly
to Sebastian's office. I tried to think of what to say to him, but it was
hard. How could I tell him that his son wanted him around?
What happened was surprising. Even though I wanted to cut ties with
him, he still decided to be there for Blaze with all his heart. It made me
feel both impressed and upset.
As we approached Sebastian's office, my heart pounded with
uncertainty. I'm not exactly sure how this conversation would
go.
As we approached Sebastian's office, my heart pounded with
uncertainty.
Stepping out of the car, I took a deep breath to steady my nerves. With
each step towards his office door, I felt the weight of the moment
pressing down on me.
Clifford led the way as we took the elevator going to Sebastian's office.
The guards and the employees at the reception didnât bother asking me
for my ID.
With each passing moment, my heart was thumping like a wild drum. I
keep repeating in my head the words that I'm about to say. But as soon
as the elevator door opened, my head went blank.
My feet felt like they were glued to the ground once we were standing
in front of the door to his office.
âHeâs inside, Miss Blaire. You can go ahead and get inside,â Clifford
said before opening the door for me.
As soon as he opened the door, I immediately saw a silhouette of a
man sitting on his swivel chair, his back facing us.
âClifford, I've already said I want to be left alone, haven't I? How many
times do I need to repeat that I donât want to be bothered right now?"
Sebastian growled, clearly annoyed by our sudden disturbance.
I didnât answer and stayed silent. He probably noticed that, so he
quickly turned his chair around, facing me.
I can see the surprise on his face upon seeing me. His jaw dropped as
he stared at me intently. He even blinks his eyes a couple of times,
probably to convince himself that he isn't hallucinating.

My eyes landed on the bottle of Scotch on his table, which was almost
empty, and the glass in his hand.
âIsn't it too early for drinking?â I asked him.
He cleared his throat, trying to compose himself. âI-I was justâ" He
was having a hard time finding the words to explain.
Finally, standing before him, my emotions tangled into a web of
conflicting feelings.
Sebastian's gaze met mine, and for a fleeting moment, I saw a glimmer
of recognition in his eyes.
âFix yourself; we need to talk," I said as I walked towards the couch and
waited for him to compose himself.
