Chapter 1074 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âWhat?â Everyone exchanged glances when they saw the black needle, surprised. They had seen Dustin removing the needle from the horseâs head. There was even blood on it.
So, someone purposely inserted it into Galeâs head. âSeriously? Could this guy be telling the truth?â Everyone turned to look at Jayden, waiting for an explanation.
âNow that Iâve found the evidence, what else do you have to say?â asked Dustin. Then, he flicked the needle and sent it flying. It landed near Jaydenâs feet. âWhat do you mean? Are you suspecting me?â Jayden frowned.
âIâve no idea who did this. But I can swear that I havenât done anything to harm Sheila!â Dustin replied indifferently, âYeah, keep up with the act.
âJust moments ago, your sister admitted you were the only one who touched Gale. Who else could it be if it wasnât you?â
âYes, I did touch Gale. But that doesnât mean I inserted this needle,â Jayden answered. âPerhaps someone had already inserted the needle before we arrived.â
âThatâs right! Sheila has a lot of enemies, and theyâre always targeting her,â Roxanne chimed in. âThere have been frequent kidnappings and assassination attempts. Iâm not surprised that someone would target Gale!â
Dustin scoffed. âYou guys sure can give a reason for everything.â Jaydenâs expression turned serious, and he turned to Shelia. âSheila, you know me best. Do you think Iâm the kind of person who would harm you?â
âOf course not. Jayden has always been very nice to me. How could he harm me? This must be a misunderstanding, âSheila muttered while repeatedly shaking her head.
Her cousin had always been gentle and kind. Jayden had never done anything bad. Sheila did not think he was a bad person.
Jayden said coldly, âDid you hear that? Sheila and I are very close. Donât try to stir things up between us.â âSheila, you should always keep your guard up,â Dustin reminded.
He was not expecting to prove that Jayden was guilty with just a needle. However, Dustin hoped that Sheila would stay alert.
âSheila! This man has ill intentions! Heâs trying to ruin our relationship,â Jayden declared. âYouâre better off without a friend like him!â
After listening to their argument, Sheila tried to smooth things over. Calm down, guys. It was just an accident. Letâs not let this incident ruin our friendship.â
One was her cousin, while the other was her savior. Sheila felt awkward as she was caught in between them. âForget it. For Sheilaâs sake, I wonât hold it against you this time.
âBut one more word of nonsense from you, then I wonât hold back,â Jayden threatened. Dustin almost exposed him for pretending to care about Sheila. Jayden could not help but feel frustrated.
Suddenly, Vivian spoke up, âWait a second. Since someone tampered with Gale, this race should be declared void. We canât consider it as Sheila had lost.â
âThatâs right! Under normal circumstances, Gale had a better chance of winning,â Evan and the others chimed in. Roxanne pursed her lips. âHmph! There will always be unexpected events during a horserace.
âSo, a loss is still a loss. Whatâs with all this nonsense?â âLet it go, Roxanne. Weâre a family, after all. Our relationship is more important. Return Gale to Sheila.â Jayden spoke up as well.
âWhy should I?â Roxane asked with her head tilted. âShe should honor her bet! I won Gale fair and square! Why should I return him to her?â
She had been eyeing Gale for a long time. After all, it was a fine horse. After going to great lengths to obtain Gale, Roxanne was reluctant to return it.
âRoxanne, be nice. Give Gale back to Sheila. Iâll get you another fine horse in a couple of days,â Jayden tried to convince Roxanne.
âI donât want anything else but Gale!â Roxanne was stubborn. No matter what Jayden said, she refused to budge. âSheila, youâre a grown-up already. Are you going to back out on your asked Roxanne. words?â
âIâ¦â Sheila was at a loss for words.
