Chapter 1082 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âUncle Edgar, these are my friends! What are you doing?â Sheila was shocked and stood before her friends with her arms wide open. âHmph! Theyâre nothing but a bunch of troublemakers!
âJust one look and you could tell that theyâre bad influences! Now, step aside! âEdgar roared.
âNo! Theyâre innocent! You canât hurt them!â Sheila reasoned. âMr. Murray, we didnât do anything. This is a misunderstanding!â Vivian hastily explained.
âThatâs right! It was an accident that Roxanne got hurt. It has nothing to do with us!â The group was panicking.
Edgar was a very decisive man and held authority within the family. It would only lead to trouble if they were to be apprehended by him. Even if they escaped death, they would probably still be tortured.
âStill trying to argue your way out? If it wasnât for your schemes, how would Midnight Shadow have suddenly gone berserk?
âDo you think Iâm stupid?â Edgar bellowed. Based on the information he received earlier, he found two aspects of the matter suspicious. Firstly, Midnight Shadow was a Thoroughbred. How could it have lost to a pony?
Secondly, Midnight Shadow was well- trained and never misbehaved. It was suspicious that it suddenly attacked its rider. âWait! Sir Edgar, if someone is behind this, it must have been him!â
Suddenly, Evan pointed at Dustin and protested, âHe was the one who competed with Roxanne. He even won! Heâs the most suspicious!â
âThatâs right! I found it strange at the time. Now that I think about it, this guy is indeed suspicious. âHe must have planned it to harm Roxanne!â Vivian echoed. âSir Edgar! You must apprehend him! It has nothing to do with us!â The crowd panicked.
The truth wasnât important at a time like this. It was much more important to make sure they werenât implicated. That way, they could avoid any punishment they were bound to receive.
âYou!â Edgarâs icy gaze landed on Dustin. âWere you the one who won against my daughter in the horse race?â
âI did win. But your daughter getting hurt had nothing to do with me. She inflicted it upon herself,â Dustin answered impassively.
He did pull a few tricks to get Midnight Shadow to stall. But he never hurt anyone intentionally. Roxanne was the only one to blame for her temper. Her beatings had provoked Midnight Shadow.
âShe inflicted it upon herself?â Edgarâs expression darkened. He smirked. âBravo⦠Well done! It was indeed your doing!
âMen, seize this young man and subject him to severe torture!â âYes, sir!â Four armed soldiers stepped forward with their guns, ready to apprehend Dustin.
âStop right there! Donât come any closer!â Sheila suddenly took out a knife and stood in front of Dustin. She yelled, âIf any of you does anything, I wonât hold back!â
The four soldiers exchanged glances. They were hesitant to step forward. Sheila was Christopherâs favorite granddaughter and had a high standing within the family.
âYou insolent woman!â
Edgar glared at her. âSheila Murray! You sure are bold! How dare the culprit?â you defend âDustin is not the culprit! You canât just apprehend him without evidence!â Sheila tried to argue.
âEvidence? Hah! My word is evidence enough!â
Edgar asserted dominantly, âHeâll confess soon enough after a round of torture. Now, step aside!â
âNo!â Sheila was stubborn. âYou impudent woman!â Edgar flew into a rage and slapped her across the face. Sheila stumbled from the force of the hit. And soon, her face swelled.
âWhat?â Dustin frowned at what he witnessed. He never expected Edgar to be that unreasonable. How could he hit his niece without first finding out the truth?
âMove! Otherwise, Iâll take you in too!â
