An Understated Dominance by Marina Vittori Chapter 1235
âOh, my goodness! Is that Lord Xenos? What is he doing here?â âLook at his entourage. It doesnât seem like theyâre here for the engagement party.â
âExactly! Who brings that many guards to a banquet? Itâs pretty clear that troubleâs brewing.â
Georgeâs arrival immediately caused a stir. Even the members of the Grant family couldnât hide their uneasiness. After all, George was a viceroy. He held a great deal of power throughout the Southern province, both military and political. He was a high-ranking official, a truly influential figure.
In the presence of such an important person, even Tyler, a powerful general, had to exercise restraint. âDustin, are you all right?â George asked as he came in.
âIâm fine, thank you, Lord Xenos,â Dustin replied politely.
âThatâs good.â George smiled. Then, he turned to Tyler. His expression suddenly turned stern. â Tyler, you have abused your authority as a third-ranking official. Do you think no one can keep you in check?â
Georgeâs words were direct and spared no disrespect for the Grant family. âLord Xenos, youâve got this wrong. It was Dustin who caused trouble, and we were just defending ourselves,â Kate quickly interjected.
âThatâs right! It was Dustin who killed our family member. We need justice!â the Grant family members chimed in.
âShut up, all of you!â George stared sternly at them. âDonât think Iâm unaware of whatâs been happening here. The Grant family kidnapped Natasha and murdered Hector. Your actions are barbaric!â
His words instantly silenced the Grant family members. It was clear that they had no moral ground on which to stand.
âLord Xenos, I have no problem with you. Why do you stand against me like this?â Tylerâs face turned cold, his gaze hostile.
The last time he came to the Harmon residence, George had interfered and thwarted Tylerâs plans. He hadnât expected George to show up and interfere again. It was just too much!
âAs a Dragonmarsh general, it is your duty to uphold the law and see that justice is done. But look at your behavior; how is it different from a gangster?â George spoke emphatically.
âLord Xenos, even though your official rank is higher than mine, that doesnât mean you can order me around,â Tyler asserted.
He continued, âMy position as general was bestowed upon me by the royal family and falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of War. Even though you are a viceroy, Lord Xenos, you have no right to meddle in my affairs.â
A viceroy held the highest position in a region. They oversaw both military and political affairs. Although their rank was high, they were civil officials.
Tyler, on the other hand, was a military officer, and they operated under different systems. Civil officials and military officers have always had a strained relationship. If things escalated, Tyler wouldnât be afraid because he had powerful backing.
âTyler, donât be so arrogant!â George snorted coldly. âThe Southern province is under my jurisdiction. If you do something outrageous, Iâll not stand idly by!â
âLord Xenos, Iâve always obeyed the law, so where do these outrageous acts come from?â Tyler asserted. He added, âEven if I were truly guilty, there is nothing you can do about me. You are only the local governor.â
As he finished, a deep, imposing voice suddenly sounded. âIf Lord Xenos canât deal with you, what about an old man like me?â
The voice wasnât loud, but it was clearly heard by everyone. Following the sound, a group of people entered through the main gate, led by a sturdy, white-bearded old man.
