An Understated Dominance by Marina Vittori Chapter 1254
Despite her shameless and disgraceful behavior, she was only concerned about her life now. She was betting on whether her father would be willing to sacrifice himself for her.
âKate Harmon! Are you even human? How could you accuse your father to clear yourself of guilt? Youâre worse than an animal!â
âThatâs right! Your father worked hard to raise you, yet youâre framing him? Itâs one thing to be ungrateful, but this is too much!â
âWhat an unfilial child! Youâre a monster!â
The Harmons rebuked her angrily. Kateâs unfilial behavior angered them. She caused this mess, yet she wanted her father to bear the blame. She had no conscience at all.
âShut up! All of you shut up!â Kate was furious and yelled repeatedly. She then turned her attention back to Trent and appeared pitiful once again.â Dad, you watched me grow up. Youâve always been so fond of me. You certainly canât bear to see me die, right?
âYouâre already old and have a few years left to live. But Iâm still young. I have a beautiful life and future ahead of me. I donât want to die here!
âDad! Hurry up and confess to your crimes! I will lose my life if you donât do it!â Kate grew agitated. Her voice grew louder and louder until she became hysterical.
Her once beautiful face now looked like a complete maniac. âKate, youâre right. Iâm indeed guilty, and I admit it.â Seeing his deranged daughter, Trent smiled bitterly.
His gaze had no anger nor hate, only pity and headache. But above all, he felt helpless. At that moment, he deeply regretted his decision back then.
He shouldnât have fought for power, he shouldnât have forced Hector from his position, and he never should have trusted the Grants.
Because of his greed, he had made the wrong decision and walked down a destructive path. And ultimately, it led to today. He had to take responsibility for breaking up the Harmons, and he also had to take responsibility for Hectorâs death.
But most importantly, he had to take responsibility for his daughterâs spiral into madness. He was a sinner, an unforgivable sinner. If he could trade his life for his daughterâs, he would do so willingly.
âThere! Did you hear that? My father confessed!
âHe confessed to his crimes!â Kateâs expression brimmed with delight. It was as if she had managed to seize a lifeline.
âMr. Trent, what are you saying? It was Kateâs fault. Why are you taking the blame?â
âThat right, Mr. Trent. Thereâs no reason to protect a disgraceful daughter like her. Just let her face the consequences!â
The Harmons spoke up indignantly. They were bewildered.
âThatâs enough!â Trent raised his hand to silence them. Taking a deep breath, he continued calmly, âI was the one who led the Harmons into this predicament. I committed deeds I never should have, resulting in this irreparable outcome.
âIâm ashamed before the family, Hector, and all of you. I ⦠I deserve more than death.â
The crowd was stunned by his words.. Was he seeking death?
âDustinâ¦â Trent turned around slowly. His gaze was serene when he said, âI did everything. Iâm willing to take accountability for my actions. I only hope you will spare my daughter and the rest of the Harmons.â
âYouâre in no position to negotiate,â Dustin responded coldly. âYouâre right. Iâm not worthy. Iâm just a criminal.â Trent let out a self- deprecating chuckle.
With a complex mix of emotions, he turned to Kate. He spoke softly, âKate, Iâm sorry. This is all I can do for you. Iâm not strong enough to protect you.
âI just hope you will stay safe forever. Iâm leaving nowâ¦â âTrent picked up the knife from the ground and slashed his neck.
Right there and then, he died at his own hand.
