An Understated Dominance by Marina Vittori Chapter 1290
Harper couldnât understand why Brooke had shown this secret place to someone he had only met.
âWellâ¦â Brooke hesitated, feeling awkward. He couldnât just say that Dustin had barged in. Dustin explained, âIâm here to visit my uncle, Cinna.â
âThatâs right, this is Mr. Rhys, Cinnaâs nephew. Itâs only natural for him to visit his uncle,â Brooke said solemnly. âNephew? Uncle?â Harper looked at Dustin suspiciously.
âGrandpa, are you sure heâs not lying? Mr. Shaffer has been in a coma for ten years. âAnd suddenly, his nephew shows up to visit. Donât you think something fishy is going on?â
âYouâre overreacting. I trust Mr. Rhys is not a bad man,â Brooke said firmly, dismissing her doubts..
âBut-!â
Harper was about to say more, but Brooke held his hand to cut her off. â Enough, letâs talk about this later. âYou said there was a problem downstairs. What happened?â
âOh, that bastard, Ziggy Larkspur, is back. He claims that the medicine you prescribed him last time worsens his condition.
âHe said if you donât fix it today, heâll destroy Harmony Healers!â Harper was indignant. Brooke frowned at this news. âI thought we would have time before troubles started, but I didnât think it would be this soon.â
Dustin asked, âWhatâs going on, Dr. Busch?â
Brooke explained, âOur Harmony Healers are at a prime location and have a good reputation.
âA pharmaceutical company has been attempting to buy us out, but Iâve refused each time. So, theyâve sent people here to cause trouble and damage our reputation.â
Dustin raised an eyebrow, âSo, theyâre resorting to brute force? âHow dare they be so bold? Doesnât anyone keep them in line?â
âWell⦠reporting them to the authorities is useless. These bastards are fast, and they vanish once the officers show up.
âEven if they are caught, they have powerful supporters who will have them out in no time,â Brooke said. It was a difficult situation for him to be in. Brooke felt helpless even if he had divine medical skills. He had been harassed for months.
Dustin offered, âDr. Busch, why donât we go downstairs and see whatâs happening? I have experience dealing with these people, and maybe I can help.â
Brooke had cared for Cinna for ten years, so Dustin thought he should repay the favor.
âWhat can you do?â Harper sneered at him.
âZiggy is a notorious figure in South City and has powerful connections. Youâre an outsider. How can you fight against him?â
âSheâs right, Mr. Rhys. You canât afford to upset Ziggy. Donât worry about it. Let me take care of it.
âI still have some influence here in South City; they wonât dare do anything rash,â Brooke said thoughtfully.
âGrandpa, you donât have to worry. Iâve already informed Cody, and heâll take care of Ziggy. âWeâll just go down and hold them back until Cody gets here,â Harper said confidently.
âIt looks like weâll need to rely on Cody. âBrooke nodded.
âLetâs go downstairs and meet them.â With that, he led them down to the first floor of Harmony Healers. On the first floor, a scarred-faced man sat at the counter, slicing an apple. His henchmen sat behind him, pushing all the patients out of the way.
All the doctors and apprentices from Harmony Healers were huddled in one corner, trembling with fear and unable to speak.
âHey, whereâs Brooke? Tell him to get out here!â Ziggy grew impatient and grumbled.
âIâm counting to three; if heâs not here, Iâll wreck this place!â
