An Understated Dominance by Marina Vittori Chapter 1309
âMs. Camron, thatâs a bit too much,â Cody finally spoke up. âHarper is my junior. Itâs not exactly appropriate for you to make that comment with me here, donât you think?â
âOh? Mr. Ostrower is here as well? My apologies.â Lana feigned astonishment. She then continued with a sly smile, Itâs no wonder Harper was able to get in. It turns out you were the one backing her.
âIâm just curious, as the scion of a noble and respected family, how come you have such bad taste? Youâre actually attracted to this bland woman?
âHey! Who are you calling bland?â
Harper was enraged at her words. She was about to act out but was quickly held back by those around her. The Camron familyâs influence was slightly stronger than the Ostrower familyâs. If Harper were to lay her hand on Lana, not even Cody would be able to get her out of trouble.
âIf you reacted, I guess I must be talking about you then. What about it? Do you have an issue with it?â Lana smirked, her gaze provocative.
She thoroughly enjoyed seeing Harper fuming in anger, knowing Harper could do nothing about it.
âYou⦠Youâre too much!â
Harper was about to launch into an angry tirade when Cody stopped her. â Ms. Camron, letâs not push it. Weâre here for a meal and donât wish for trouble. I hope youâll let us off the hook.
âAlright, for your sake, Iâll let her off for now.â
Lana glanced at Harper and smiled faintly. âOh, by the way, Ms. Talented, it seems Regal Court will host a literary event later. Donât you consider yourself knowledgeable? I hope you wonât embarrass yourself later.â
âHmph? Do you think Iâll lose? What a joke.â Harper had a grim expression. When it comes to literature, not even ten of you combined are a match for me!â
âOh, really? Since youâre so confident, why donât we have a little competition? âLana smiled teasingly.
âBring it on! Do you think Iâm afraid of you?â Harper wasnât afraid. While she felt inferior in terms of family background and wealth, she could easily outshine Lana in terms of talent. A pampered rich girl could never compare to her.
âThereâs nothing interesting if itâs just a competition. Are you brave enough to up the stakes?â Lana challenged.
âWhat do you want to bet on?â Harper raised her head defiantly. âYou donât have anything of value on you, so how about you bet Harmony Healers?â Lanaâs proposal was shocking.
âIf you lose, youâll hand Harmony Healers to me. If you win, Iâll give you one billion. How about it?â
âHarmony Healers?â Harper frowned at her words. This woman was clearly up to no good. âHarmony Healers is probably not worth one billion. But Iâm a generous woman and wonât haggle over the details.
âThe real question is, do you dare bet on it? If you donât, youâd better steer clear of me in the future,â Lana said with a smile.
âWhatâs there to be afraid of? Letâs do it!â Harper was incited and readily agreed. âHarper! Stop messing around!â Brookeâs expression shifted dramatically as he tried to stop her.
âHarmony Healers is an important business to us. Itâs not something for you to use as a wager!â he exclaimed. Betting a sum of money was one thing, but betting their entire business was a reckless move. If she lost, it would be catastrophic.
âGrandpa, donât worry. Iâm confident Iâll win. Sheâs practically handing us money!â Harper was highly confident.
âDo you think money is that easy to come by? Itâs too risky to use Harmony Healers as a bet!â Brooke scolded her.
âWhy not? Iâm going to win. As long as I dare make a bet, itâd be like taking candy from a baby. This is an opportunity that we canât miss!â Harper said boldly.
