An Understated Dominance by Marina Vittori Chapter 1310
Harmony Healers didnât earn much. They either treated the poor for free or only charged them the cost price of the medications. Despite their reputation, they struggled financially.
One billion was an amount Harmony Healers would never earn in a lifetime. That was why Harper thought there was no harm in betting on it. It could change their fortune dramatically.
âThere are no absolutes in life. I will never allow you to risk Harmony Healers like that!â Brooke refused to give in.
âGrandpa, why wonât you trust me?â Harper was getting frustrated.
âWhen those thugs were causing trouble, didnât you stake Harmony Healers too? You even did it on behalf of Dustin! Why are you willing to trust an outsider but not me? Why?â
Harper was practically yelling by the end of it.
âKid, I had no choice back then. But youâre just being willful now. You need to understand the difference,â Brooke explained with a frown.
âI donât care!â Harper wasnât listening to reason and was getting agitated. âWhy is Dustin worth betting Harmony Healers on, but not me? If you refuse to trust me today, Iâm cutting ties with you!â
âYou-â Brooke was exasperated. He was torn between anger and helplessness. Why was this child so stubborn? Did she have to gamble her entire family fortune just to prove a point?
âMaster Brooke, while Harper is acting impulsively, she isnât entirely unreasonable.â Right then, Cody spoke up for Harper.
âI know Lana. Sheâs not exactly smart. Sheâs no match for Harper, especially when it comes to literary knowledge. I have absolute faith in Harper. Sheâs definitely going to win!â
âExactly, Master Brooke. Harper is widely recognized as a prodigy, particularly in literature. Sheâs way above that affluent woman!â Caldwell chimed in.
âMaster Brooke, obtaining wealth often involves risks. If we win one billion, Harmony Healers can save countless more lives. Think about the people who will benefit from it!â
The students voiced their opinions.
âIâ¦â Brooke found himself wavering. He was in a tight spot. If he refused his granddaughter, she might try something foolish. But if he agreed and she won the bet, it could resolve many of Harmony Healersâ issues.
For a moment, he found it difficult to make a decision. âMaster Brooke, please agree. Iâm willing to vouch for Harper,â Cody requested with a personal plea.
âSince you put it that way, Iâll allow her to have her way this time.â After much hesitation, Brooke finally relented. But he added with seriousness, âBut this is a one-time exception. There will be no more next time!â
âNo problem.â Cody nodded.
âThanks, Grandpa!â Harper beamed. âHaha⦠And here I thought you wouldnât dare take on the bet. Youâre quite bold. But itâs a shame that youâre destined to lose.â Lana smirked.
âLose? Hmph, what a joke! I know exactly what youâre made of. Your talent is a joke compared to mine.â
Harper scoffed.
While she couldnât claim to know Lana inside out, she understood her well enough from their four years in university. It wasnât an exaggeration to claim that her penmanship outshone Lanaâs, even with her toes.
âSince youâre so confident, letâs see what happens later. I just hope you wonât regret it.â Lana smiled meaningfully before taking a seat at a nearby table with the man next to her.
After a while, the literary event hosted by Regal Court officially began.
