âCaitlynâs here with me as well,â Maximus replied. âAfter Mr. Jones left, Caitlynâs quite lonely at home. Thatâs why I brought her along for a little adventure.
âWe havenât been to Oakvale. We heard it was a great place and wanted to see it for ourselves.â
âOakvale may be a great place, but it also has its dark sides. You wouldnât even know it if someone sold you out,â Dustin said helplessly.
âThatâs why we have you, Dustin. We have nothing to be afraid of.â Maximus laughed heartily.
âThatâs enough. Stop flattering me. Where are you now?â Dustin asked. âOh, we just got off the train. Weâre at the south station,â Maximus replied.
âWait there. Iâm coming to get you.â
After the call ended, Dustin asked the driver to turn around and headed. straight to the south station. The car stopped at the south station after an hour.
âDustin! Over here!â
Dustin saw Maximus and Caitlyn waving happily to him as soon as he exited the car. They had a lot of luggage with them. Looking at them, they looked like they were moving here instead of coming for a short visit.
âWhy did you bring so many things?â Dustin walked toward them, looking helpless. âIt doesnât hurt to be prepared. Weâll use it anyway,â Maximus said with a toothy grin. It was their first time in Oakvale. They prepared extra as they got a little too excited.
âItâs fine. Letâs find a place for you to stay, and weâll get something to eat after that.â
Dustin reached out to take Caitlynâs luggage from her, but she shook her head and refused. âMr. Rhys, youâre of a higher social rank. Please let me do the laborious work.â
As she said that, she hobbled toward the car with the luggage behind her. Sheâd refuse help even though she was utterly exhausted.
Dustin was helpless. The girl hadnât changed a bit. She was used to living a difficult life. Sheâd feel uncomfortable if she had nothing to do.
With both of them in tow, Dustin headed back to the hotel. It was a five- star hotel in Oakvale, which wasnât too luxurious. Nevertheless, it was expensive.
Caitlyn looked around in awe as they walked into the hotel. She immediately lowered her head self-consciously and hid her face with a bag when a stranger looked at her.
âMr. Rhys, how much does staying here for one night cost?â Caitlyn asked Dustin timidly when he was going through the check-in procedures.
âWeâre in the cityâs prime location. A basic room will cost around two thousand for a nightâs stay,â Dustin replied casually.
âWhat? Thatâs very expensive!â Caitlyn was stunned and froze on the spot. She had never made two thousand, even after toiling for a month. She had always been frugal and thus found it hard to accept spending so much money just to stay for one night.
âCaitlyn, donât feel bad. Money is the last thing on Dustinâs mind. You just make yourself comfortable.â Maximus smiled.
âNo⦠No, itâs too expensive!â Caitlyn shook her head immediately.
âMr. Rhys, this place is not for me. Iâm not staying here. Iâll find a cheaper alternative in the city.â As she said that, she quickly ran out of the hotel with all her luggage.
She left so franticly that it looked like she was fleeing a wild beast. Dustin and Maximus looked at each other helplessly. They were speechless and found it amusing.
As much as they felt helpless, they could also feel their heart aching for Caitlyn.
Caitlyn had been through countless hardships and dark moments in life to the extent that she was afraid to embrace lifeâs good things.
