âOh?â Pablo followed Codyâs gesture and focused his attention on Dustin. He observed Dustin closely, and his eyes glinted with interest. âYouâre a very impressive young man.
âDonât just stand there; take a seat. I want to talk to you about something.â He sat on a nearby couch and took a sip of red wine from a waiter, looking confident.
âDustin, this is the renowned Mr. Hans. Iâve brought you here to make sure you make a good impression. Donât miss out on this opportunity,â Cody said with a half-smile.
âSo, you brought me here for him?â Dustin asked casually.
âMr. Rhys, Cody called you here because I want to make a deal with you.
Pablo took a long drag from his cigar and exhaled a smoke ring. It drifted lightly towards Dustinâs face, dissipating about a foot away from him, vanishing into thin air.
âA deal?â Dustin remained unfazed. Are you talking about the Dew balm formula?â
âGood! I appreciate talking with smart people,â Pablo snapped his fingers and grinned.
âNow that you know what Iâm looking for letâs get down to business. How much do you want? Just tell me the price, and I wonât try to negotiate.â
âMr. Hans, I canât sell you that formula, âDustin firmly declined. âWhy? You think I canât afford your price?â Pablo asked, his eyes narrowing.
âDustin, a third of South Cityâs economy is in Mr. Hansâ control, and his wealth is beyond your imagination, âCody interjected.
âYes, Iâm only interested in a few things. Not many can negotiate with me. Now, itâs your chance to get ahead, so take it.â Pablo smiled, a hint of warning in his eyes.
âItâs not about the price; Iâve already sold the Dew balm formula,â Dustin revealed.
âWhat? You sold it?â Codyâs eyes widened, and he was surprised.
âTo whom? Why didnât you just tell me earlier?â
He had gone to great lengths to get Pablo to buy the formula. Cody had not expected Dustin to sell it to anyone else.
âI sold it to the Welch family; so sorry to disappoint you.â Dustin shrugged.
âThe Welch family?â Cody asked, and his eyebrows furrowed. The Welch family was one of the eight families in Oakvale, and they were notorious for not giving up their possessions easily.
âSo, how much did they pay you? Iâm willing to offer double,â Pablo chimed in. With his influence and powerful backers, he had no qualms about dealing with the Welch family.
âThis is business. Once I sell the formula, I canât take it back. If Mr. Hans wants it, you can negotiate with them,â Dustin said.
âMr. Rhys, if you can sell it to the Welch family, you can sell the formula to me, too. One formula, twice the money. Sounds appealing, doesnât it?â Pablo smiled.
âThatâs right! Your deal with Mr. Hans will remain discreet, and the Welch family will never know. âOnce you give me the formula and get the money, you can travel and live your life without worry.â Cody sweetened the deal.
âIf the Welch family finds out Iâm selling it again, I wonât live long enough to enjoy the money.â Dustin shook his head.
âDonât worry, Iâve got your back, and they wonât dare to harm you,â Pablo assured him confidently.
âMr. Hans, would you go against the Welch family for someone like me?â Dustin asked intently.
âYou are very clever.â Pablo extinguished his cigar and placed it in the ashtray. âI wonât pick a fight with them, but I can ensure they donât find you. Itâs the only way to keep you safe.â
âMr. Hans, I canât trust someone else with my safety, so I must decline.â Dustin shook his head.
âHmm?â
