Chapter 1364 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âTwo will do, no need for two hundred, âDustin said with a grin. âIâm not sure which two medicinal herbs youâre after, Your Grace. But Iâll have someone start searching right away,â Ethan replied, taking a sip from his teacup.
âItâs pretty simple. Iâd like an Iceheart Lotus and an Emerald Corolla,â Dustin said casually. Ethan, who had just taken a sip of tea, couldnât help but spit it out when he heard that.
His face contorted in shock. âYour Grace, did I hear you right? Youâre asking for an Iceheart Lotus and an Emerald Corolla?â
âExactly.â Dustin nodded. He had brought this up because he was worried about the Welch familyâs slow progress in finding these herbs. Cinnaâs health was on the line, and there was no time to waste.
He hoped that with the Langford familyâs help, it could speed things up. âDo you realize how rare and precious those herbs are?â Ethan asked, his voice quivering.
âYes, theyâre precious, but I trust you could handle this task,â Dustin said with a smile. âHandle it? Thatâs easy for you to say,â Ethan thought, struggling to keep his frustration in check.
âFirst, you demanded the Golden Balcony, and now you want two insanely rare and precious herbs. Are you trying to bankrupt the Langford family?â
âYour Grace, if we could buy these with money, itâd be one thing, but precious herbs are exceptionally rare. Iâm not sure where we can find them quickly,â Ethan looked concerned.
âOthers might struggle, but I have confidence in you, Mr. Ethan,â Dustin said, taking another sip of tea.
âButâ¦â Ethan furrowed his brow and hesitated to respond further.
âMr. Ethan, have you ever heard about the Curtis family massacre twelve years ago?â Dustin suddenly brought it up.
Ethanâs eyes twitched, and he tensed up involuntarily, although he tried to remain composed. âIâve heard a bit about it. Why do you ask, Your Grace?â
âJust out of curiosity,â Dustin said, with a meaningful look.
âThe Curtis family-dozens massacred in a single night. The Imperial Court investigated for years, but the case remains unsolved. Any thoughts on who the real mastermind might be?â
As he spoke, his gaze remained fixed on Ethan. Ethanâs heart raced under the scrutiny, and he broke out in a cold sweat. He wondered, âCould he somehow know something? No, thatâs impossible!
âOur family executed that operation with the utmost secrecy, leaving no witnesses or loose ends. It couldnât have leaked. âBut the issue was, if Logan wasnât aware of it, why bring it up now?â
With these thoughts, Ethan couldnât help but swallow hard, and beads of cold sweat formed on his forehead.
He thought, âThe Curtis family massacre was a massive deal. If it ever came to light, it would be a devastating blow to the Langford family.â
âMr. Ethan, letâs get back to the main topic. About the medicinal herbs, is there any issue?â Dustin smiled, seemingly unconcerned.
The West Lucozian monarchy not only housed rare books from all over the world but also held many pieces of incriminating evidence against high- ranking officials. The Langford familyâs dark secret was the Curtis family massacre from years ago.
âOf course, no problem,â Ethan said, forcing a smile.
âItâs an honor for our Langfords to assist Your Grace.â
âThank you, Mr. Ethan, for being willing to help.â Dustin nodded.
âNow, letâs discuss the last matter. To be honest, my trip to Oakvale is to fulfill a long-cherished wish. But my current abilities are limited, and I need your assistance.â
âYour Grace, youâre too kind. Please tell us what you need,â Ethan said, with a lingering touch of unease.
âItâs quite simple. I want the Langford family to investigate privately the truth behind my motherâs death many years ago.
âI want to uncover the real mastermind!â Dustinâs eyes suddenly became sharp and determined.
