Chapter 1729 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âKill me?â Dustin frowned. âWas it someone from the Dragon Guard?â
He and the Dragon Guard were now sworn enemies, so the remnants of the Dragon Guard would not let him go easily.
âWeâre still not sure for now.â Grace shook her head. âWe were ambushed that night. However, I was prepared and already moved you to a different vehicle. Fortunately, everything went well.â
âIt must have been the remnants of the Dragon Guard.â
Audible cracks could be heard as Dustin stretched lazily. He sighed, â Thankfully, you were quick-witted. Otherwise, I would have been in danger.
âSince I brought you to the palace, it is my duty to keep you safe.â
Grace chuckled lightly. âBesides, youâre now a key figure in the limelight. If anything were to happen to you, Dragonmarsh would be thrown into chaos.â
âYour Royal Highness, please stop putting pressure on me. Iâm just a normal guy without grand ambitions. Youâd better not place your expectations on me,â Dustin said with a yawn.
Even though he had slept for two days straight, it still didnât feel enough.
âThis is your destiny and the will of the Gods. Thereâs no escaping it. Even if you do nothing, trouble will find you.
âRather than finding yourself cornered with no escape, why not prepare in advance? At least then, you could carve your own path,â Grace said profoundly.
She had performed divinations on Logan several times. Although she couldnât foresee the exact outcome, she was able to infer that all major events in Dragonmarsh were intertwined with Logan. Even a small decision of his would influence the overall situation.
âCarve my own path?â Dustin raised an eyebrow, suddenly reminded of the dream he just had.
If he could choose, he would never opt for war. War only brought death and would claim the lives of his dearest friends and family.
âGrace, after that night, I now have a rough understanding of your three brothers.â Dustin suddenly changed the subject.
He continued, âThey not only have the ability to fight for the throne, but they also possess great ambition.
âTheyâre the type of people who would use any means to achieve their goals. However, honestly, compared to your father, they fall quite short.â
To the West Lucozian monarchy, Valonâs actions might be unrighteous, but at least he worked for the good of his country and its people.
In contrast, his three sons were each harboring hidden agendas. Over the years, they never attempted to build their reputation and hadnât achieved anything that would earn the peopleâs respect.
All their energy was spent on their internal struggle for power, keeping an eye on their father, and guarding against their siblings. They had thoroughly mastered the art of politics, but what they lacked was a compassionate heart.
âItâs not entirely their fault. Since they grew up in the royal family surrounded by many powerful ministers, the instinct to vie for power and gains had become almost inherent to them,â Grace explained.
âYouâre pretty good at defending them. âDustin chuckled.
He continued, âBut youâre right, your brothers are not necessarily incompetent. However, I still think they lack the ability and wisdom to be a true ruler. Your father is clearly aware of this, and thatâs why heâs struggling with a decision.â
âPeople grow up. Nobody is born a King. Perhaps, they would change once they ascend to the throne,â Grace remarked.
âThatâs nearly impossible! Itâs also too risky to bet Dragonmarshâs future on your brothersâ transformation. Once we lose the bet, the consequences would be unimaginable.â Dustin shook his head.
âWhat exactly are you trying to say?â Grace quickly sensed something was amiss.
âItâs nothing,â Dustin said.
He smiled faintly and added, âI just wanted to ask if youâve ever thought of becoming Queen? If you do, I would consider supporting you.â
