Chapter 1909 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âThis is not something your men can help me with. Besides, this was a promise I made, and I canât just break it,â Dustin said, sipping on his tea.
With the Celestial Eye, he had a significantly higher success rate in searching for the Dracan essence. For anyone else, it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
âFine, youâre free to pursue the Dracan essences. But what about after you find it?â Rufus asked again.
âIâll cross that bridge when I get to it. I havenât thought that far ahead.â Dustin shook his head.
âSince you havenât considered it, Iâll take the liberty of doing so for you!â
Rufus asserted sternly, âOnce you fulfill your promise, youâll return home and assume the throne. Iâll ensure everything is well-arranged to spare you any concerns.â
âI told you. I donât want the throne,â Dustin refused outright.
âYouâre my son. If you donât become the Prince, who will? Austin?â Rufus snapped.
âAustin is talented in all aspects. So, why not?â Dustin retorted.
âAustin is undeniably outstanding. However, his skills are better suited for the role of Grand General, not the Prince of West Lucozia!â
Rufus continued solemnly, âEven though West Lucozia wields great power, internal conflicts are rampant.
âOnce Iâm no longer here, various factions will vie for control, and dangers will surround us from all directions.
âHow is Austin supposed to keep them at bay? Entrusting him with such a responsibility would only expose him to significant risks!â
âAnd how can you be certain that I can handle them?â Dustin countered.
âYou are destined for greatness and possess a great amount of luck. There is no one more suited to be The Prince of West Lucozia than you in the entire world.
âIâm not the only one who thinks that way. Even the people in Oakvale share the same view. Once you assume the throne, youâll stabilize the overall situation.
âIf anything happens to West Lucozia in the future, youâll be able to shoulder the heavy burden!â Rufus declared determinedly.
âSo, essentially, what you need is a pawn to bring stability to the situation, âDustin remarked, frowning slightly.
âLogan, everyoneâs destiny is unique, and from the day you were born, you were destined for greatness,â Rufus spoke with a mix of emotions.
âYouâll be able to accomplish many things and save countless lives. Every action and decision you make, no matter how small, determines the life and death of countless people.
âIâm not asking you to sacrifice yourself for others. I just hope youâll stop avoiding it and accept your role calmly. It wasnât easy for West Lucozia to get this far today.
âItâs the result of years of hard work between your mother and me. If possible, I hope you can carry forward our aspirations.â
âIf Mother were alive, she probably wouldnât force me to do something I donât like,â Dustin remarked casually.
âYou-â Rufus began, struggling to find the right words. Eventually, his words transformed into a long sigh, and he looked profoundly weary. It was as if his energy had been drained away.
âYouâre right. I was too impatient. I shouldnât have pushed you.â Rufus forced a smile.
With a somber expression, he continued, âI always envisioned you as the perfect successor, capable of taking over West Lucozia, leading the Rhys family to glory, and ensuring the well- being of the people.
âI was considering the big picture but neglected your feelings. In retrospect, what matters most is that youâre safe and happy. Itâs not important whether you become the Prince.
âI was wrong. I shouldnât have imposed my wishes on you. So, I will support whatever decision you make. No matter what it is that you decide to do. I just hope that when you have the time, you can visit home more often.â
Dustin found himself at a loss for words upon hearing Rufus. As he gazed at his fatherâs graying hair and weathered face, a swirl of mixed emotions enveloped him.
For the first time, he questioned if he made the right decision. Born into the lap of luxury in West Lucozia, he wondered if the time had come for him to shoulder some responsibilities.
