Chapter 1916 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âIâve never been through anything quite like this before. It feels different this time,â Garrett admitted, taking the teasing in stride. After having been through life-and-death situations together, there was nothing they couldnât talk about.
âMs. Linsor is truly unique. Although I havenât seen her in person, the vibe she gives off suggests sheâs an extraordinary beauty,â the bald, burly man said excitedly.
âDozer, Captain has his eye on Ms. Linsor. Donât even think about going down any inappropriate rabbit holes, okay?â the short-haired girl cautioned.
âOh, come on, I was just throwing it out there casually. I wouldnât dream of competing with the captain for a woman.â Dozer chuckled sheepishly.
She gave Garrett confidence and said, â Captain, finding someone who really gets to you doesnât happen daily. Donât overthink it, and just go for it. Your charm is bound to do the trick!â
âIâm afraid it could be too late.â Garrett sighed, shaking his head.
He added, âMs. Linsor has her own personal bodyguard, and theyâre always together. The nature of their relationship seems a bit unclear. I doubt Iâll get a chance.â
Before, most of the jealousy seemed to be aimed at Dustin. Just by observing Graceâs protective demeanor, it was clear that their connection went beyond ordinary friendship.
The short-haired girl narrowed her eyes and said, âCaptain, âWhere thereâs a will, thereâs a way.â Have you never heard of that?â
âOh? You got a solid plan in mind?â Garrettâs interest was suddenly piqued.
âItâs easy. Once Ms. Linsorâs bodyguard is out of the picture, youâll get your shot,â she said, much to their surprise.
Garrettâs face momentarily stiffened at her words. After glancing around to ensure privacy, he lowered his voice and said, âSilva, cut the crap. We have rules. Weâre an exploration team, not mercenaries. Engaging in killing and scheming like that would tarnish our reputation if word got out.â
âCaptain, who will find out if we handle it quietly?â Silva said, smirking.
After years of wandering the martial world, deceiving and battling for survival, theyâve taken many lives. For them, ending someoneâs life was just a routine.
âBeing Ms. Linsorâs personal bodyguard requires some serious skills.
Taking him out discreetly wonât be a walk in the park, especially with her security team in place. The risks are too high if we decide to make a move,â Garrett mused.
âCaptain, youâre missing the bigger picture here. I wasnât suggesting we act right away. We shouldnât forget where our advantage lies.â Silva flashed a meaningful smile.
âYouâre talking about ⦠Deadlands?â Garrett swiftly grasped the idea after a momentary pause.
âExactly!â She snapped her fingers.
She continued, âDeadlands is a dangerous place. People die there every year. Taking out that bodyguard shouldnât be too hard if we play our cards right and find the perfect moment. Once thatâs done, you can kick back and enjoy a blissful life with Ms. Linsor.â
Dozer couldnât help but burst into laughter. âI get it! Weâll deal with him when the chance pops up in Deadlands!
These peculiar statements in the tavern certainly turned heads and drew the interest of quite a few.
âHey, could you tone it down a bit? Why donât I get you a megaphone so you can let loose outside? How about that?â Silva said with a hint of annoyance in her tone.
âI guess my voice is just naturally loud, âDozer said, scratching his head as he quickly lowered his voice.
âCaptain, what do you think? Thereâs a golden opportunity right in front of us. Once we deal with that troublesome guy, youâll be able to bring the lady home,â she said, tempting and persuading at the same time.
âAll right! Letâs go with your idea,â Garrett declared with a determined glint in his eyes.
His expression turned serious as he muttered, âWell, Dustin, Iâve got to be decisive for my own sake. So, donât blame me for being ruthless. Point the finger at your unlucky fate for getting in my way!â
