Chapter 1921 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
Grace raised her glass and smiled.â
Cheers, everyone! No need for formality. Dig in and enjoy yourselves.â
Seeing the tempting array of dishes, the disciples of the Embersteel Order eagerly indulged, savoring each bite without hesitation. As rounds of wine flowed, their camaraderie began to flourish.
âMs. Linsor, Dustin, judging by your appearances, youâre not locals. Are you also on the hunt for the treasure?â Jackson subtly asked.
âYes, we heard of treasures in the Deadlands, so we assembled a team for the challenge and to gain some experience,â she replied candidly.
It was universally understood that anyone braving the dangerous Deadlands was on a quest for its hidden treasures. Considering the treacherous nature of the terrain, the idea of visiting for leisure was entirely dismissed.
âMs. Linsor, pardon my directness, but venturing into the Deadlands carries significant risks,â Jackson cautioned, eyeing them both.
He added, âA single misstep could prove fatal, and it seems neither of you is accustomed to handling such dangers. You should rethink your decision.â
Grace smiled in acknowledgment of his concern. âJackson, I appreciate your warning, but we have our reasons for this trip.â
âIf youâre set on going, you could tag along with us. That way, youâll have someone looking out for you,â Jackson suggested. Dustin, intrigued, joined the conversation. âAre you guys on a treasure hunt in the Deadlands too?â
âNot exactly,â Jackson replied honestly. âOur sectâs current mission is to explore the sudden emergence of an oasis in the Deadlands.â
âBe mindful of your words, Jackson,â an Embersteel Orderâs disciple interjected cautiously. The caution stemmed from a reluctance to reveal too much about their mission.
Sensing the hesitation, Dustin reassured, âIf thereâs something you canât share, donât worry about it.â
âNo problem. Weâre friends. Thereâs no need for secrets,â Jackson said, casually dismissing the caution.
âOur mission involves investigating that mysterious oasis that recently appeared in the Deadlands. Word is, itâs expanding rapidly and might be hiding some epic treasures.â
He added, âWhere thereâs abnormality, there might be something supernatural. Our sect has tasked us with exploring it thoroughly to unravel the mystery.â
âWeâve heard about the oasis, and weâre planning to explore it too,â Grace replied.
Jackson said, âSeems like weâre on the same page. Rumor has it that once you step into the oasis, itâs a one-way ticket -no one ever makes it out. Weâre in the dark about what really happens inside.â
His tone grew serious as he whispered, âThe real concern isnât just the dangers within the oasis. Itâs the skilled people. Some have good intentions, but others are driven by malicious motives. They are the real threat.â
In the martial world, people of all kinds existed. Alliances could quickly turn into rivalries, even with strangers. Pursuing treasures without strong power or reliable support was futile.
âYouâre right.â Grace nodded in agreement. âThis treasure hunt will draw in a lot of experts, and if conflicts arise, things could get messy.â
âDonât worry too much. Stick with our Embersteel Order, and Iâm confident youâll be safe,â Jackson reassured her confidently.
The Embersteel Order commanded considerable power and influence in the southwestern territory. Unless dealing with notorious troublemakers, most sect experts hesitated to cross paths with them.
They were enjoying their drinks and having casual conversations when Garrett and the members of the Black Scorpion Squad approached hastily.
âMs. Linsor! Great news!â Garret reported, âIntel just came in- someone has returned from the oasis!â
