Chapter 1923 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âOf course! Thatâs a blue jadeite, and itâs also an antique thatâs worth a fortune!â Garrett snapped.
âWorth a fortune? What a treasure!â The middle-aged manâs face lit up with joy as he carefully put away the pendant.
âWe left in a hurry, so I didnât manage to bring anything else with me. The pendant is valuable, so I hope youâll like it,â Grace said with a slight smile.
âMiss, considering your sincerity, Iâll pass on the message. But whether Mr. Zaeske decides to see you is beyond my control,â the middle-aged man said cautiously.
âThank you.â Grace nodded slightly.
âAlright, please wait a moment,â the middle-aged man said and entered the courtyard.
After three minutes, he reappeared with a smile on his face. âMiss, Mr. Zaeske has agreed to see you. However, for safety reasons, you can only bring one person with you.â
âGarrett, please keep watch here. Iâll be going in with Dustin,â Grace instructed. She then headed inside with Dustin.
Ryan lay unconscious inside a bedroom, his face pale. The village chief, Kayson Zaeske, was by his bedside, discussing his condition with a village doctor.
âBob, is there really no hope of saving this young man?â Kaysonâs expression was somber.
As the only survivor to emerge from the oasis alive, Ryan was an extremely valuable person. He could bring prosperity to the village if he played his cards well.
âMr. Zaeske, this young man is seriously injured and has also been extensively poisoned. I lack the skills to treat him.â The village doctor shook his head. He was adept at managing minor ailments but found himself utterly helpless when faced with perplexing conditions.
âIt seems like weâll have to send him to the hospital.â Kayson frowned.
âMr. Zaeske, our village is at least a dayâs journey from the hospital in the city. With his current condition, he might not be able to make it,â Bob said with a sigh.
âWeâll have to try. We donât have any other options.â Kayson was helpless. The money bag that was at hand was now on the verge of death. It was a pity.
âMr. Zaeske, my friend here is highly skilled in medicine. Why donât you let him try?â Grace suddenly said, arriving at the door.
âI heard from Paco that youâre friends with this young man?â Kayson probed.
âWeâre not exactly friends. I just have some questions to ask him,â Grace replied truthfully.
âWell, you seem like an honest person. âKayson nodded in satisfaction. âIf you had lied, Iâd have kicked you all out. 11
âMr. Zaeske, youâre a wise man. We wouldnât dare lie to you.â Grace took the opportunity to flatter Kayson.
âHahaha⦠Youâre quite good with words.â Kayson grinned widely.
âMr. Zaeske, Ryanâs in critical condition. Itâs probably too late to send him to the hospital now. My friend has been studying medicine since young and specializes in various complicated illnesses. Perhaps he can help heal Ryan.â Grace shifted the focus to Dustin.
âHeâs quite young.â Kayson scrutinized Dustin skeptically.
Their conventional thinking had led them to believe that older doctors possessed higher medical skills. Convincing them of Dustinâs capabilities when he was only in his 20s would prove to be a challenge.
âI may be young, but it doesnât diminish my skills. Iâm confident of waking Ryan up within 10 minutes,â Dustin said calmly, looking extremely confident.
