Chapter 2452
An Understated Dominance
âGet lost! Iâm not in the mood for anything right now. If you want to eat, go on your own.â Warrick snapped, looking annoyed.
âIâm not going either,â Percival refused flatly. âIâm on a health regimen these days -only tea, no alcohol.â
âFine. If youâre going to wait, then keep waiting. I wonât be sticking around.â Huxley forced a smile and acted like he was about to leave.
But as he turned, he almost bumped into Boston, who was approaching from the other direction.
âSorry, Sir Thatcher! I hope I didnât startle you.â
Since he was surrounded by so many high-ranking officials, Boston was already on edge. He had momentarily spaced out and almost caused a mishap by running into Huxley, which left him flustered and a bit tongue-tied.
Unlike the other generals, Boston didnât come from an influential background or have any powerful connections. He had worked his way up from the bottom, and the last thing he wanted was to offend Huxley and risk losing everything he had fought so hard for.
Huxley frowned momentarily but quickly relaxed. He smiled and said, âItâs alright. You seem to be in a rush. Is something bothering you? Feel free to talk about it.â
A third-ranking official wasnât a small fry. With another promotion, Boston would be able to become Huxleyâs right-hand man. So, Huxley felt that offering a smile and extending a favor wouldnât hurt.
âIâve come to discuss something important with the prince, but I didnât anticipate such an esteemed gathering. My apologies,â Boston said, forcing a smile.
âOh? Youâre also here to see the prince? How coincidental, weâre all here for that as well.â Huxley smiled.
âWho do you think you are, showing up here? Get lost!â Warrick growled.
His words made Boston freeze. He quickly nodded. âY-Yes, I didnât realize you were all having such an important discussion. Iâll⦠leave right away.â
He was about to make a quick exit, but Huxley raised a hand to stop him. âDonât worry. Now that youâre here, you might as well stay.â
He then glanced at Warrick and smiled. â Mr. Prescott, this man is your subordinate. He hasnât done anything wrong. Why are you so harsh?
âLet him explain himself-what if heâs got some urgent military matter to report? If you send him away and it turns out to be important, youâll be in trouble when the prince finds out.â
âHmph! If you have something to say, just say it. Otherwise, you can take your nonsense elsewhere,â Warrick grumbled.
âR-Right,â Boston stammered. âItâs just that⦠Mr. Jovian from the Ballard family is visiting West Lucozia today, and he asked me to deliver a letter and request a meeting with the prince.â
After hearing that, the surrounding people burst into laughter.
âMr. Jovian from the Ballard family? Never heard of him. He should just go back to wherever he came from!â Warrick said sharply.
If Simon had been here, he would have shown some respect. But Jovian was a spoiled brat, raised on his familyâs wealth, so Warrick didnât take him seriously.
âHey! What do you think the West Lucozian monarchy is, huh? Do you think just any Tom, Dick, and Harry can waltz in? Ridiculous!â Percival scoffed.
The three first-ranking officials were still waiting outside, while some nobody-who probably came from some corner of nowhere thought he could come in and see the prince. It was absurd.
âGet lost! Stop embarrassing yourself. Just looking at you irritates me!â Warrick ordered Bolton to leave.
âYes⦠yes. Iâm leaving now.â Boston was sweating profusely and didnât dare to wipe it off. He bowed his head and prepared to leave.
Suddenly, the castleâs red gate creaked open.
