Chapter 2570
An Understated Dominance
âTorturing someone to confess might work, but itâs not always the best approach, âGrace said calmly.
She continued, âTo be honest, thereâs a seal inside my body. If I trigger it with my mind, itâll release a burst of energy strong enough to level everything within 300 feet, including me.
âIf that happens, you get nothing. And thereâs a good chance youâll get hurt in the process. I donât think thatâs what you want, and I certainly donât want it to come to that.â
Zeusâ smile immediately froze. He thought he had her cornered. He didnât expect she had a backup plan. For a moment, he didnât dare use force against her.
He glanced at Hera. âWhat do you think?â
He was a fighter, not a diplomat. If it were any other matter, heâd skip the talk and strike down his opponent.
But Graceâs offer was different. She claimed to have a technique that could break through their cultivation, and it was something Zeus had dreamed of for years.
Even if she was lying, he still held onto a glimmer of hope. He felt that it was better to be safe than sorry. After all, what if she was telling the truth?
Before he could force the secret out of Grace, he couldnât bear to kill her. If he lost this opportunity, who knew when another would come? Maybe there wouldnât be a next time at all. He wasnât about to gamble on that.
âI have to say, I really admire your courage and wisdom.â Hera finally spoke up.
She continued, âWith just a few words, youâve got us second-guessing everything. People as smart as you donât come around often these days. But honestly, itâs your courage I admire even more than your intelligence.
âYouâre staring death right in the face, yet you keep your cool and negotiate with us without so much as a flicker of fear. That kind of courage and boldness surprises me.
âIf we lived in the same country, Iâd definitely take you as my disciple. Youâve really impressed me.â
Hera even clapped her hand with undisguised admiration on her face as soon as she finished talking.
âHera, what the hell are you doing?â Zeus frowned in confusion.
Wasnât she supposed to intimidate Grace and use threats? Why was she suddenly praising her?
Hera ignored him and kept her eyes on Grace. She smiled and said, âIf Iâm not mistaken, youâre just stalling for time, right?
âYou want us to leave Dragonmarsh now, then hand over the breakthrough technique three days later. That just doesnât sit right with me.
âI donât know whatâs going to happen in three days, but something tells me we canât let you get your way. If you do, it could put all of us in danger.â
Grace kept her calm. âI only ask you to show mercy and spare Logan. Nothing else.
âNo, no, noâ¦â Hera shook her head and studied her carefully. âIf saving Logan was all you cared about, this isnât the strategy you wouldâve used.
âYou had a full night to run, but you stayed. Even after the steeple was destroyed, you didnât back down. Instead, you stood your ground and tried to strike a deal with us.
âSo either youâve got backup and our threats donât scare you, or something is holding you back from leaving. Tell me did I get it right?â
Grace kept a calm expression, but Heraâs words rattled her. She didnât expect Hera to be so perceptive about her circumstances.
If she denied it, she couldnât explain why she hadnât escaped, and convincing the two afterward would be even harder.
Zeus and Hera had reached the rank of royal gods. They werenât the kind to be fooled or underestimated.
After a momentâs thought, Grace finally nodded. âItâs true. Weâre trapped here with no way to get out.â
A soft chuckle escaped Hera. âI knew it.â
She started to circle Grace, speaking as she went. âIf youâd denied it earlier, youâd be dead right now.â
âLady Hera, your wit and wisdom are unmatched. My petty tricks will never slip past you.â Grace sighed softly.
âSpare me the flattery,â Hera replied with a smirk. âNow tell me. Whatâs really keeping you here? Be honest, and I might consider sparing your life.â
âThereâs no point hiding it anymore.â
Grace looked deflated, and her expression dimmed as she spoke.
She went on, âLogan was badly wounded in a recent fight and is now barely hanging on. Thereâs a sacred spring at the base of this mountain that can heal him and keep him alive. If I leave, heâll die for sure.â
Upon hearing that, Heraâs lips curved into a knowing smile, as if sheâd expected this.
âSo thatâs what this is about,â she said. â No wonder youâve been stalling. All this time, youâve been trying to buy time to save your lover.â
Sheâd heard before that Logan had been seriously injured. Now, it turned out the rumors were true.
âSo youâve been lying to us this whole time?â Zeusâ expression darkened as sparks crackled at his fingertips. âThat so-called breakthrough technique was just a lie too?â
