Chapter 297 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âEnough. Stop fighting. Let us know what happened first.â Florence said worriedly.
âIâm not sure what happened either.â James sobbed. âI blacked out after drinking with my friends. By the time I woke up, I was already in the car, and there was wreckage everywhere. I was so scared I ran away immediately, but I got caught the same night.â
âYou did a hitâandâ run? Do you know how severe this crime is? You wonât be getting out without a decade or two of jail time!â Dahlia spat.
âWhat?â James immediately paled. âIâm still young. I donât want to go to jail. Please save me!â
âYou have to pay the price for your mistakes. How can you think that youâll be safe after killing someone?â
Dahlia sighed. Although she loved her brother dearly, she could do nothing about his crime.
âSis, Mom, help me! I swear Iâll never do this again! Iâve learned my lesson, I swear!â James swore frantically. unable to stand the thought of living out his life in prison.
âCalm down, James. Iâll call you aunt right now. With the Glenstead Nicholsonsâ help and some money, we
should be able to get your out.â Florence quickly drew out her phone and called Jane. âHello? Jane? James is in danger. He ran his car into somebody and killed them. Could you make a few calls to get him out?â
âItâs not that I donât want to help you, Florence, but Dahlia ran away from her date last night, so our family is very unhappy. Theyâve given the order that unless Dahlia marries Mr. Longford, our family will not be providing any assistance,â Jane responded calmly.
âWhat?â Florence stiffened and turned to look at Dahlia questioningly.
âIâll never marry him!â Dahlia immediately refused.
âThen forget about it. Deal with James on your own.â Jane hung up.
âJust agree, Dahlia. Whatâs wrong with marrying Mr. Langford? Heâs powerful and rich, and he comes from an aristocratic family. As long as you marry him, we can save your brother and live comfortably for the rest of our
lives.â Florence urged.
âMom, I donât like him!â Dahlia frowned.
âYouâll fall in love with him after some time. Would you rather see your brother being sent to prison?â Florence
wailed.
âThatâs right, Sis. Just marry Mr. Langford, or Iâm doomed!â James sobbed.
âDid the two of you ever think of my future?â Dahlia was troubled.
âYouâll have a wonderful life if you marry Mr. Langford, and our family will become powerful too, Whatâs not to like about that? Besides, Iâm your brother. Do you want to see me rot away in jail?â James roared, his eyes bloodshot.
âLet me think about it. Tâthere must be another way.â Dahlia shut her eyes helplessly.
âWhatâs there to think about? Weâre running out of time.â James shouted frantically.
âHeâs right. Wonât you please help him? Iâm begging you!â Florence cried and fell to her knees.
âWhat are you doing, Mom? Get up!â Dahlia paled and tried to help Florence stand.
âI wonât get up until you agree!â Florence declared.
At the sight of her motherâs firm attitude and her brotherâs terrified expression, Dahlia stood rooted dumbly, at a loss. She never thought that things would turn out this way. The happiness sheâd been praying for was just
a few steps ahead, so why was God treating her this way? Didnât she deserve happiness?
âFine. Iâll do it â¦â Dahlia shut her eyes, tears spilling down her cheeks.
She had given in..
