Chapter 299 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
Dahlia didnât pick up the first two times. It wasnât until his third attempt that the call got through.
âHey, Dahlia. Didnât you tell me to treat you to dinner? Why arenât you here yet?â Dustin asked.
âAbout that Iâm sorry, but something came up. I might not be able to leave any time soon.â Dahliaâs voice sounded strange.
âItâs alright. Work is more important. Take your time. I wonât bother you.â Dustin answered understandingly despite the tinge of regret.
Dahlia hummed. âIâll treat you another day.â
âSure.â Dustin smiled. He was just about to hang up when he heard a familiar voice.
âDahlia, who are you calling? Hurry up. Youâve got to drink with me-â
With a beep, the call ended.
âSir, when is Ms. Nicholson arriving?â the manager asked.
âShe has something to deal with, so she canât come. You can put everything away. Iâm sorry, everyone.â Dustin smiled politely and got up to leave.
Everyone exchanged confused glances. Why had the carefully planned dinner gone to waste?
Meanwhile, inside a Barkarole Hotel room.
âMr. Langford, I canât drink anymore. Letâs stop here tonight.â Dahlia waved her hands frantically as another
glass of wine came towards her.
Her face was flushed, and she was lightâheaded, her body weak.
âIt was quite hard to get your brother out of that mess. You canât be that ungrateful, can you?â Luis held up his
glass unhappily.
âJust drink it, Dahlia. Itâs just one glass.â Florence, who was sitting beside them, urged.
They were here because they wanted to save James, so they had to make sure they pleased Luis.
âBut â Dahlia hesitated, troubled. Knowing her limits, she was sure sheâd collapse if she drank anymore.
âI wonât force you anymore, Dahlia. This is the last glass.â Luis pushed the glass towards her once more.
âSee, Dahlia? Itâs the last glass. You shouldnât embarrass him.â Florence pressed softly.
âAlright, Iâll drink it.â Taking a deep breath, Dahlia lifted the glass to her lips and downed the entire thing. As soon as the liquid settled, she felt herself getting dizzier. Her body swayed, and she almost tripped.
With quick reflexes, Florence grabbed Dahlia to keep her still. âMr. Langford, Dahlia is drunk. Why donât I send her home.â
âItâs fine. Iâve already booked a presidential suite for the two of you. She can just rest here.â Luis said with a smile.
âWonât that be too much trouble?â Florence questioned tentatively.
âOf course not. Weâll be a family soon. You should go and rest.â Luis drew out a room card and passed it to Florence.
âThank you, Mr. Langford.â Florence nodded and helped Dahlia out of the room.
âLetâs see how youâre going to escape tonight.â Luis cackled, seeing Dahliaâs retreating figure. He lifted his glass and took a big gulp before following behind the two women.
