Chapter 30 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âDo you have a plan in mind, Mr. Rhys?â Natasha asked.
âI need to get a clear understanding of the situation first. I hope you donât mind if I ask you some questions.â Dustin cleared his throat before continuing, âWhere did you go today, and did you meet anyone there?â
âI met Edwin today. We talked about work, and he asked about us being in a partnership, but I rejected his offer,â Natasha answered truthfully.
âI see. Did you drink anything he offered you?â âOf course not. That man has been eyeing my family business for ages. Iâd never let my guard down around him.â
âThen it really is strange how you got drugged, sis,â Ruth piped up. âTruly.â Natasha rolled her eyes. âWhen you two met, did you smell or touch anything in particular?â Dustin then asked.
âNow that you mention itâ¦â Something suddenly dawned on Natasha. âWhen I stepped into the place, I did smell something particular. I didnât pay much attention because I thought it was just perfume. But then, after a while, I started feeling dizzy. My body felt oddly warm too. Good thing I left soon after that. Who knows what couldâve happened if I had stayed longer?â
âIt seems like that fragrance really is the problem,â Dustin concluded.
âWhatâs next, Mr. Rhys?â
âThere was ambergris residue found on your skin earlier. It mustâve been the main ingredient in the fragrance that was used to drug you.â a
âSo what? We still need to track down the person who made that drug,â Ruth huffed, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
âAmbergris is a rare substance, so our target pool is quite limited. We can look at recent buyers and narrow down our search from there,â Dustin replied.
âGood plan. Iâll have someone get to it right away!â Natasha agreed. With her familyâs influence, this sort of thing could be settled in a jiffy.
âI trust my work here is done, Ms. Harmon. Iâll take my leave now.â Dustin made a move to stand up.
âOne more thing!â Natasha suddenly stopped him.
âWhy donât you join us for dinner?â
âThank you, but I⦠already have plans tonight.â
Natasha gave him a curious look. âIt canât be with your exâwife, can it, Mr. Rhys? Donât you find me attractive? Hm?â
With that, she arched her body to show off her curves.
Dustin froze up. âUâuhâ¦â
âHahaha, alright, Iâll stop teasing you,â Natasha giggled, âI wonât make you cancel your plans. But before you go, here is a token of my appreciation.â
She made a quick gesture, and a servant came over with an elegantâlooking box.
âI hope you can make good use of these wines, Mr. Rhys. Iâve had them in store for quite some time.â Natasha beamed, handing him the box.
âYou have my thanks, Ms. Harmon.â Dustin gladly accepted it. He deserved some compensation for work done, and a gift from Natasha Harmon herself wouldnât be just some lousy trinket.
âSee Mr. Rhys out, Ruth,â Natasha called.
âOkay,â Ruthâs tone was tinged with reluctance, but she still brought Dustin out to his Lamborghini,
Suddenly, his phone rang. It was a phone call from Henry Nicholson, Dahliaâs grandfather,
âHey Dustin, are you up for lunch today?â
âThank you, but I already have plans today, sir.â
âYou still need to eat, donât you? Dahlia shouldâve cut you some slack. Iâll make sure to tell her about this!â The old man grunted.
âItâs just some personal business, sir, nothing to do with Ms. Nicholson.â
âAlright, enough defending her. I know how you are, and Iâm sure this is because of her. Donât you worry; Iâll make sure to confront her about this. Weâre family, and family needs to spend time together.â 9
âUh⦠sure, I guess,â Dustin reluctantly agreed.
In the three years after marrying into this family, only this old man treated Dustin as his own. That was why he respected and cared for him deeply.
But they wouldnât see each other for a long time after that. So let this meal be the final goodbye for both of themâ¦
