Chapter 497 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
Dahlia couldnât help but frown when she stared at the unbothered faces of the people around her as they chatted away merrily. She made sure to arrive earlier for the board meeting, so Hankâs accusation of tardiness was absolutely baseless. From the moment she entered the room, the attendees remained seated. No one stood up to greet herânot even saving a seat for her. Clearly, they did not take her seriously.
âHank, whatâs this supposed to mean?â She whispered while keeping her composure. She knew that Hank was laying down the law from day one.
âWhat do you mean?â Hank lit himself a cigar and crossed his legs on the table, seemingly treating the
meeting room as his own office.
âI am sure you have received the news from the familyâs patriarch. Iâm the new chairman of Nicholson Corp. as of today.â Her voice was laced with warning.
âAnd?â He gave her a mocking smirk.
âYou are in my seat. Youâve crossed a line here.â She rapped her knuckles on the table.
âYour seat? Do you have evidence of that?â He shrugged and acted unreasonably. âEveryone here knows that this has been my seat forever. It was you who entered the room and immediately demanded my seat. What
right do you have?â
âYeah! What right do you have?â
âMr. Hoffman is the person in charge of the company! How dare a newcomer wrestle that seat from him? What
a joke!â
The meeting attendees started to make a scene. As they were in the same boat as Hank, they would never allow the young lady to be in command.
*Please get your facts straight. I am the largest shareholder in this room and the chairman of the company. Hereâs my notice of appointment. If anyone here is dissatisfied, you may check with Regulus Nicholson!â With a hardened expression, she slapped a document on the table. She had come prepared, but the situation seemed more dire than she had expected.
âA notice of appointment? Haha! Who are you fooling with this?â A disdainful Hank added. âEven a general on the battlefield, as the primary decisionâmaker, might disregard the Kingâs command! Weâre not in Glenstead.
Your tricks donât work here!â
âAre you rebelling against me now?â She slammed a hand on her table, unable to contain the rage in her.
âNo, we wonât rebel, but we are against your appointment.â Hank was straightforward with his dislike for her.
âThatâs right! We do not acknowledge It!â
âYou have neither connections in the field nor personal relationships with prominent figures. And you are lacking in capability. Why should you be our chairman?â
âHmph! As longâtimers in the company, we despise those who get in through the back door!â
1/2
The animated attendees tried to get a word in, and they were harsh in their criticisms.
âFirst, this is Regulus Nicholsonâs decision, Like it or not, you have to accept it.â She put on an icy look. âBy the way, you were asking why I should be the chairman. I will go into detail on that topic. After looking into the companyâs financial statements, I found out that the company is crumbling on the inside despite its glamorous facade. Corruption is rifeâusing company funds for personal matters, lining your pockets through contracts and deals, and even selling company secretsâthese are commonplace.â
She finally added, âRegulus Nicholson sent me here to execute a quick shakeup. If youâre unhappy with the decision, you may turn in your resignation letter!â
The most senior executives instantly slammed their hands on the table upon hearing her words. âWho are you trying to threaten? We can always leave!â
âThatâs right! I, for one, would love to know how the company operates if we resign collectively!â
âWhat goes around comes around! There will be a time when you need to beg us for help!â
While complaining, the group of senior executives headed toward the exit. Given their positions in the company, they knew that a collective resignation would lead to a halt in company operations and, even worse, bankruptcy. That was the reason for their confidence.
