Chapter 80 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
That evening. Dustin finally woke up after hours of sleeping and found that he was in a hospital room. A shocked voice rang out the moment his eyes opened.
âHuh? You arenât dead, Rhys?â Dustinâs gaze followed the source of the voice and landed on Ruth sitting beside him with a dazed expression as she looked at him.
âWhat? Disappointed to see me alive?â Dustin snapped. âAhem. Um, Iâm just surprised.â Ruth grinned bashfully. ââWhereâs your sister?â Dustin asked, changing the topic.
âOh, she went to get your medicine.â Ruth examined him and said, âI heard that the venom is something called the Deadly Slither. Itâs extremely poisonous and can kill a person quickly! Itâs a miracle that youâre still alive!â
âYouâre right. The venom is potent. It even managed to knock me out for a few hours. No wonder itâs one of the
worldâs top ten most poisonous venoms,â Dustin marveled.
âWhy does that sound weird?â Ruth was puzzled.
Before Ruth could come out of her daze, two people entered the hospital room.
One was Natasha, while the other was a curvaceous lady dressed exquisitely. The two women resembled
each other. Not only were they both very wellâdressed, but they both had a powerful air to them.
âDustin, youâre finally awake! How are you feeling?â Natashaâs face lit up as she rushed toward him.
âIâm feeling better now that Iâve gotten some sleep.â Dustin smiled.
âHere, take this. Itâs a secret medicine I got you. Take it with some water, and youâll be fine in no time.â
Natasha pushed a small white bottle into his hand and poured him a glass of warm water.
âSecret medicine? What is it?â Dustin asked curiously.
âDonât underestimate it. Itâs the result of three years of dedicated research and experiments by Dr. Rowan
Cross. It can treat all kinds of venom,â Natasha urged.
âRowan Cross?â Dustin was surprised.
âYou know him?â asked Natasha, with a raised eyebrow.
âIâve met him once.â Dustin did not deny it. He had met Rowan a few years before when Rowanâs enemies
were hunting him down and Dustin had saved the poor man. The antidote had been Dustinâs gift to him.
âItâs always been difficult getting ahold of Dr. Crossâ whereabouts and even harder to see him in person. You should take it before anything happens,â Natasha urged.
âThereâs no need. My bodyâs already free of venom. You can take it back.â Dustin declined politely.
âIt was difficult getting my hands on this baby. Why would I ever return it? Just keep it even if youâre fine now.

Itâll come in handy in emergencies,â Natasha insisted, stuffing the bottle into Dustinâs pocket.
Dustin accepted it. After all, she did it out of kindness.
âOh, right. Thereâs something else I should mention. I think I saw Dahlia Nicholson at the hospital entrance,â Natasha said abruptly.
âHuh? Whatâs she doing here?â Dustin was puzzled.
âI heard her grandfather is critically ill and receiving emergency treatment.â
âCritically ill?â Dustin immediately became worried. âAre you sure?â
âPositive. Or Dahlia wouldnât be downstairs right now,â Natasha replied.
âIâll take a look.â Dustin got up and left the room.
Henry Nicholson had treated Dustin like his own, so there was no way he would do nothing while the old man
was ill
âNatasha, you wasted one of the Harmon familyâs favors just for him?â The woman beside her finally spoke. She was Natashaâs mother, Jessica Ballard.
âIâll pay Dr. Cross back myself. It has nothing to do with you,â Natasha replied indifferently.
âDo you like that kid?â Jessica frowned.
âSo what if I do?â Natasha raised her chin defiantly.
âYou should remember that the two of you will never end up together. Heâs just a nobody while youâre the daughter of a wealthy family and the heiress to the Harmon family. Your statuses are worlds apart!â Jessica
reminded.
âI donât care,â Natasha responded coolly.
âBut I do!â Jessicaâs tone was firm. âYou can make up your mind about anything except your marriage! Donât forget that youâre already engaged to Tyler!â
âSorry. Iâm not interested in Tyler Grant allâ Natasha quipped.
âYou have no say in this matter! You are the eldest daughter of the Harmon family. With wealth and power comes responsibility!â Jessica chided.
âResponsibility?â Natasha scoffed. âDo you mean using marriage to climb the ranks?â
âThis is for your own good and the entire familyâs! Tyler is an impressive person. Heâs already a Major General despite his young age. He has a bright future ahead of him. Heâs the perfect choice for marriage!â Jessica
lectured.
âIf you like him so much, you marry him then! I have no intention of doing so,â Natasha retorted bluntly.
âWhy are you so stubborn? If you donât marry into his family, you will never become the head of the Harmon family! Why donât you understand this?â
âIt doesnât matter since I was never interested in becoming the head of the family, to begin with,â Natasha

replied matterâofâfactly.
âIs your entire future worth sacrificing just for that kid?â Jessica spat.
âOf course! I donât think Tyler is better than him anyway!â
âYou have that much faith in him?â Jessicaâs expression hardened.
âThatâs right!â Natasha announced proudly.
Jessica paused when she heard her daughterâs answer. Resolute, she inhaled before declaring with a cold voice. âFine! Since youâre not going to give up, Iâll give you one chance. If that punk can pass three tests, Iâll never bring up the topic of your marriage to the Reeves family again!â
âWhat kind of tests?â asked Natasha with a raised brow.
âFirst, he must defeat Edwin Hummer to prove his strength!â Jessica demanded.
âEdwin has Boulderthom to back him up! Itâs it a bit unreasonable to ask Dustin to defeat him?â Natasha frowned.
Jessica snorted. âIf he canât even defeat Edwin Hummer, why should I accept him into our family? What right does he have to fight Tyler? Well, Iâm giving you both a chance. If he fails, you better return to Millsburg and get married!â
Jessica turned and left the room.
