Chapter 1004
When Love Comes Late
âTime to get up for breakfast,â he whispered.
Still wrapped in the warmth of the quilt, Stella asked lazily, âWhat time is it?â
âItâs nine,â Matthew replied, gently coaxing her hand from under the quilt to wrap it around his neck.
He then lifted her up, carrying her towards the wardrobe.
âGet changed and ready.
Whatâs your plan for today?â
Nestled against his chest, Stellaâs voice was soft.
âI need to head to the studio.
There are several orders I havenât finished yet.
â
âOkay.
â Matthew nodded, setting her down gently.
âI can drive you there after breakfast.
â
Stella, suddenly more alert, quickly declined.
âNo, I have to discuss something with Miley first.
You go on to work.
Iâll go to the studio later.
â
She was determined to keep her deteriorating health condition from Matthew for now.
Matthew, not pressing further, ki*sed her forehead.
âAlright, then letâs have breakfast together.
â
After they had breakfast, Stella watched Matthew drive away before she herself left Prosper Bay.
Spotting a taxi by the roadside, she felt fortunate.
She turned off her Uber app and got into the taxi.
âSir, Iâm not feeling well.
Please drive slowly.
â After giving the studioâs address, Stella settled into the backseat.
The driver acknowledged with a low âokayâ and started the car, pulling away smoothly.
âPlease, slow down.
â Stella thought the driver hadnât heard her properly, so she repeated her request.
To her dismay, the driver completely disregarded her pleas, instead accelerating the car.
Stellaâs heart raced, a mix of panic and dread washing over her.
Clutching the seat belt tightly, she struggled to speak.
âSir, Iâm not feeling well.
Please, slow down.
â
Her hand moved to her collar, feeling as though an invisible force was squeezing her heart, making it hard to breathe.
